in 1976, Atari released the very first home video game system. It was the size of three Sony Playstations and only played one game.. a black and white version of Pong.

It's neat to look back and see just how far we've come. If only they knew then what they know now, who knows.. the Atari Playstation or the Intellivision X-Box would have been all the rage circa 1981?
I don't know where my life would be without video games that I lived on as a kid. I still find myself (from time to time) getting lost in the wonderful video world that can take you away from "this thing called life."

Imagine what we will be playing in another 20 years!! I love the episode of "That 70's Show" when Kelso and Red re-wire the Pong game to make it go faster

I hope and pray that when I'm 70 we will be interfacing with our games like in Gibsons "Neuromancer" - that way my poor motorskills at the time wouldn't influence my gaming

I sometimes wonder about that. I mean how much more advanced can Video Games get than they already are? :)
Probably years down the road, the whole world will be a video game. It will be like Tron: The live version
I remember seeing those on TV. My first system was a Coleco Telstart Arcade probably in about '79 or '80 somewhere.

It is pretty amazing... but we can definitely go further... no doubt about it. I still find it sorta wild that what I used to play on my big 'ol SNES I can now play on my puny little GBA SP on a cartridge no longer than my pinky  And when the 'DS' comes out, I'll be able to play GCN caliber games on a handheld :D

I often wonder how much a Pong system would have cost in '76? Probably like $100. You can get 'em at flea markets and yard sales these days for 50 cents

Man, I want an SP!! I have a "regular" GBA and it doesn't have the backlight, but I know what you mean, I just got TMNT for GBA and it is so weird that games like that can be played on a machine that fits into your pocket!
I prefer older games...Todays stuff is crap in my opinon :)

Perhaps not crap, but it's not as fun. Today, we have fantastic graphics. Back then, we had fantastic gameplay.
Graphics makes the game sell. Gameplay makes the game last.
Sure, graphics were horrible back then, but we could play Pong for hours every day.
Yes or Donkey Kong,Ms. Pacman,etc.... I love those games!
