Does anyone remember the Atari XE?

It was released in 1987 and (graphics wise) was a great improvement from that of the 2600, 5200 and 7800 systems, but I don't think it was able to come close to dethroning the Nintendo.

How come the NES never had a keyboard?

The worst thing for me was the Atari joysticks. The button was on the left side of the joystick, which made it near impossible for a left-hander like me to use it. Luckily, i had my 7800 joysticks that had buttons on each side. Those were somewhat easy to handle

I didn't know there was anything after 7800  That was the last Atari system I had (actually, I still have it :D) before making the jump to Nintendo and never lookin back

The neat thing about the XE was that it was compatible with all the old Atari games for the 2600, 5200 and 7800. It was released in 1987 and was discontinued in 1992.

I think Atari tried to resurrect the idea of the video game w/keyboard which they tried previously with ones like the 1979 Atari 400 "Candy" system, the 1983 Atari 800XL or the 1985 Atari ST series 260, 520 and 1040
