Did anyone else experience this?

Alot of people I knew that had an NES had to blow air in the bottom of the game cartridges to get them to work. So I'm glad I'm not the only one who used to have to do that

As the years went by, my NES got older, and soon enough, i had to blow BIG air into the game, then put another game in the system on top of it, then wedge a popsicle stick (or a penny) in the crevise above the top game just to get the games to work

When i look back at all that, i just can't control the laughter  All I can say now is... Thank god for Emulators

I just hope someday, i don't have to blow air into my computer to get the emulator to work

Yup... everyone in the neighborhood that had an NES practiced that art... I didn't do it too much myself... took pretty good care of it, so little need until it just got old and the dirt getting in was unstoppable

Emulators are definitely our classic gaming saviors :D

 I still do it to my N64 carts, but like Roem, I prefer emulation now :thumb:

You don't always have to do that...but sometimes, yes, you do need to blow the cartridge a few times..

Another hint---take a Q-TIP with just a tiny bit of alcohol and rub it on the board on the bottom. This helps to clean it...works on the inside of the NES system also.

We have several of the systems and hundreds of the cartridges so this helps keep them in good shape also.

Yeah I remember blowing air in them. But I prefered the q - tip & rubbing alcohol method. Most of our NES & SNES games still work fine now.

Yup, I used to do that as well. It's from the connector going bad. You can actually buy new ones to replace it with. Such as here on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41046&item=8123374511&rd=1)

You have all been sadly misinformed. It has nothing to do with cleaning dirt from the connectors.
You see, NES cartridges came with a limited amout of ionized oxygen in them that helped to keep the electrons aligned properly. Over time this ionized oxygen would be depleted and needed replenishing.
This is the reason that blowing in them worked. You were actually refilling the ionized oxygen storage modules.

2 words...

compressed air can can do wonders

well it's more than 2, but you get my meaning, it might be safer than a q-tip.
