Together they are tied for what i believe to be the most difficult game ever played, and if you've ever played them before, you know what i'm talking about

Game play was simple: in first person perspective, the screen moves sideways while enemies come at you. You have to punch and kick (Super Spy) or slash your sword (crossed swords) in order to not get hit and make it to the end of the level where a boss usually awaited. You could not hit enemies at a distance unless they jumped in close to you. And usually hitting them before they hit you was very difficult

The problem with Super Spy: the hero had a knife, yet if you used it more than about 10 times, the blade would get dull (it would turn a brown color) and the knife doesn't work no more.
In Level 3 (i believe), you are given brass knuckles on your right hand. Problem here was, the hero would typiclly punch with his left hand unless you moved the joystick a certain way and punch to make him throw right hooks, but game play moved so fast, it was at times difficult to remember to do this

The problem with Crossed Swords: you could see your character in pseudo-first person perspective and that made it difficult at times to avoid cheap hits and confusing maneuvers

When the Neo Rage emulator came out, i got both games and let me tell ya, even when playing it for free with unlimited credits, it is still near impossible

I remember getting REALLY frustrated trying to play "Total Recall" for Nintendo. There was no way I could beat this one boss that showed up fairly early in the game, the character would throw it's hat like a boomarang, and there was nothing I could do (it seemed) to get past that stage. It *must* have been frustrating if I remember giving up on it 20 years later.

I remember Total Recall for NES. I used to get so pissed off :grrr: playing that game. That one part where you have to get through the giant X-ray scanner... let's just say i had to pay the video rental store for the cost of a replacement cartridge

Final Fantasy 1. I've only beat this once & I'm one of the few who have.

There are a lot of games that used to be hard to play, but thanks to MAME I now have unlimited credits so they aren't so hard anymore :mwaha:

The end sequence in "Conker's Bad Fur Day" where you are fighting the alien pretty much drove me nuts. But... There have been many that frustrated me. :D
