Together they are tied for what i believe to be the most difficult game ever played, and if you've ever played them before, you know what i'm talking about
Game play was simple: in first person perspective, the screen moves sideways while enemies come at you. You have to punch and kick (Super Spy) or slash your sword (crossed swords) in order to not get hit and make it to the end of the level where a boss usually awaited. You could not hit enemies at a distance unless they jumped in close to you. And usually hitting them before they hit you was very difficult
The problem with Super Spy: the hero had a knife, yet if you used it more than about 10 times, the blade would get dull (it would turn a brown color) and the knife doesn't work no more.
In Level 3 (i believe), you are given brass knuckles on your right hand. Problem here was, the hero would typiclly punch with his left hand unless you moved the joystick a certain way and punch to make him throw right hooks, but game play moved so fast, it was at times difficult to remember to do this
The problem with Crossed Swords: you could see your character in pseudo-first person perspective and that made it difficult at times to avoid cheap hits and confusing maneuvers
When the Neo Rage emulator came out, i got both games and let me tell ya, even when playing it for free with unlimited credits, it is still near impossible
