from cnn:
Newborn twins found dead in toilet
Wednesday, July 7, 2004 Posted: 1:44 PM EDT (1744 GMT)

EAST POINT, Georgia (AP) -- A woman who says she got up in the night to use the bathroom but instead gave birth to twins has been charged with murder after the newborns were found dead in the toilet, police said.

Alainer Warren, 25, was charged last week and jailed without bail.

"She told us initially that she did not know she was pregnant," Detective Robert Gray said.

Later, investigators learned "she saw the babies moving and alive," Gray said. "We're not talking about little embryos. These were small children."

He said the girls were born two months prematurely.

Warren told police that she got up early on June 29 to use the bathroom.

She said she gave birth instead and went to wake her boyfriend, Gregory Crawford, a 30-year-old construction worker.

Police said Crawford told them that by the time he went into the bathroom and lifted the lid to the toilet, the babies were not moving.

The boyfriend was not charged.

I want to know how she gave birth so quietly??? That stuff hurts.

Yeah how could she not know she was pregnant? They should tie her tubes up and let her rot in jail. :grrr:

There must be a large segment of the population that doesn't know about birth control or adoption. Hell, you can even ditch your baby at the hospital with no questions asked. I'm not saying that's the way to go, but it's better than letting them die in a toilet.

I have a cousin who claimed she didn't know she was pregnant, but then she's an idiot.

Hey, I haven't had my period in about 7 months and I'm really fat! Do you guys think anything could be wrong with me?

I could understand being a few weeks along and not realizing it, that's one thing. But when you are seven months into it? She has to be either mentally unstable or on some serious drugs to not realize this. I know there are some women who don't show their pregnancy as much as others but SEVEN MONTHS? Come on!

I could KINDA understand her not knowing she was pregnant (esp. if she is like morbidly obese or something) but to not know you are pregnant with TWINS?!? That's just bullshit, imo

I'm no expert, but don't most women know if there's a small child in their abdomens? Even if you're not showing to other people, you'd be feeling something moving around in there. At least, that's what every pregnant woman I've ever known has told me.

That's just soooo wrong .... if you don't want a child, protect yourself against possibly getting pregnant , there are so many options available and I'm sure there are clinics that will give the stuff away in an effort to avoid unwanted pregnancies... this brings up the question of forced birth control on unbalanced individuals.

Well of course they do. But I recall seeing an episode of Oprah where an expert stated that if a woman is morbidly obese, her chances of feeling a child inside of her are less than the average woman. Not only that, but women who are that large sometimes tend to not have regular periods anyway.

Nevertheless, if both infants weighed 6 lbs. a piece, thats equivalent to a 12 lb. baby. I don't care how huge you are, you would HAVE to feel that inside of you.

My cousin had a 9-pound baby when she was 16 and claimed she didn't know she was pregnant (which was a big fat lie), but none of us thought she was pregnant. She just looked like she had gained a few pounds. I saw her days before she delivered and had no clue she was pregnant.

I could see if this person was a teenager and scared, but this is a 25-year old woman here. Take some responsibility, lady! Like someone else said, even if she DIDN'T know and it was a total surprise, why did she leave them in the toilet? I guess some people are without any kind of parental instinct. SHOOT HER!!

I totally agree with Punky and everyone else... the girl should be punished for doing that. How the HELL do you not know you're pregnant?!

OK, just wanna say this upfront, I'm not just saying what she was right, of course it wasn't and there are too many other options available to her to even think that letting the babies die was the best thing but...

She could have been morbidly obese. She probably had ALOT of pain when she had them, she was probably bleeding pretty badly and might have gone into shock (if it was a surprise, that *would* tend to shock you). She was probably lying on the floor untill she felt well enough to move, and it doesn't take long for someone to drown. Given all of that, even if she felt that she wasn't in a stable enough relationship to raise the babies, there are other options. She could have been scared and panicked and there is a condition after women give birth that makes them kill their own babies. It is rare but it does exist.

I knew of a teenage girl who gave birth to a little girl and hid her in her closet and didn't tell her mother for 2 weeks. By then, the baby had had some problems breathing, and now the little girl is brain damaged.

This is a sad world and sad and horrible things happen all the time.
