Alright. This is the thread I was talking about starting in another message. What I'd like here are your opinions on what I should do to improve my business model. What would it take for YOU to purchase a toothbrush plan. What is it that keeps you from buying a plan now?

Sal,
I think it is important that you make it clear that you can offer something which I can't get in my local store. Your product is, after all, available everywhere. You need to make sure that people know the differences between your company and the grocery-store purchasing model.

This could be stuff like: Don't worry about purchasing a new toothbrush - we will deliver! or "Does your supermarket remind you when it's time to change toothbrush? WE DO!

I am sure that your homepage gives that sort of information, but you need to make sure that people with a low attention-span sees it - before they move on to another page.

I'm already faking having a "real job" as a Marketing Director, so I'm sure I could help you even more. Feel free to email me if you want more pointers. I will be more than happy to help you to success.

By faking it I meant: Working in Marketing is not a REAL job. It's nothing but a playground for big boys and girls. And we do pretend that it's a real job sometimes.

Hey! www.newtoothbrush.com (http://www.newtoothbrush.com) is working! I can't believe it. We're not even in the search engines yet but word of mouth is making things move! Has anyone checked out the site yet from here?

Yeah, I checked it out http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif One suggestion off the top of my head though...in your title tag, you may want to change it from, "Earth's OralCare Headquarters" to "Newtoothbrush.com: Earth's OralCare Headquarters" It will help you out quite a bit in getting high search engine placement to have your company name in the title http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif

No probs http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif I should give the site a look through my "Evaluators Eye" one of these days. Indeed! I'll try to slide you in this weekend with this weeks bundle of evaluations. I've been getting a lot of groaners lately, so this will actually be a little fun to pick apart http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif I've had people picking apart my program for 2 weeks now and doing updates up the butt! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif I never knew how many mistakes I was actually making in my design http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif It really is almost a necessity to get outside opinions...never know what you may miss and someone else can pick up.

I do have an eye for this...you're right about that. The AS panel wouldn't have rated me a 4.0 if I sucked http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif I've found a bunch of little errors in my own site that I have to fix this summer when I have the time as it is.

Okay, I don't claim to be an expert in marketing, but I had an idea when I was looking at the dental shop on the newtoothbrush web site. I think it would be a good idea to offer package deals every month instead of just a tooth brush. What I mean by package deal is like 2 tubes of tooth paste, 2 things of floss, a bottle of mouth wash, etc. as well as the new toothbrush each month for more money of course. If people could get all of this with out having to place separate orders every time they run out it would be pretty awesome and I reckon more people would sign up. This is just my personal opinion, I just know what I would be more likely to buy. Of course all the people would choose what brands of dental products they want. That might get a little complicated, but people like for others to take care of the complications in their life. Anyway, that's all for now http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Roemello, you're in for some great money-making experiences. That's for sure. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif School is going to pay off. I wish I knew what you knew! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Otherwise, thanks GoGoGadget! I appreciate your idea. The only problem I can think of is that if these things were sent every month, it might build up if they haven't finished using it yet. Or in another case, they might need more early and wouldn't want to buy the package deal. It's a good idea, though. I'd like to think more on it to see what could be done with it. It's really not THAT hard to go from spot to spot and load up your cart for one Big Package - but I see what you're saying.. It would be pretty nice... Thank you! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I was just going to say...navigation is the key. If your visitors can easily find their way from item to item, they can purchase a whole package as easily as if they were in a store picking up these items one by one.

Navigation is one the most important aspects of design...one I'll be looking veeery closely at with my little eval http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Yea, I agree with Roemello, perhaps an easy way to do this would be after they add an item to their basket the server would send them to a page where they can select what they want next. . . more toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. . . I really like the whole idea you have with this site though. It's very creative, I would have never thought to do it http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I hope it goes very well for you. I think with the right moves it can be really huge http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Thanks Roem and Nathan. Hmm. Maybe I should change the way the system places you after adding something to your cart. Presently, you are brought back to the section you were already in - in case you didn't want to leave. Maybe I should have a menu for other things? But then again, you could just go to the Dental Shop for that.. Hmm. I will have to think more on it. Thanks for the encouragement about the idea. I do think it could become something big in time. And if it does, you're going to see some crazy 80sxchanging going on! Especially the Eighties Entertainment Network. That's become somewhat of a dream of mine... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Hehe...well, that's what a year and a half evaluating thousands of sites will do to ya...makes you a super nit-picker about everything http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif I don't surf the web anymore, I just check sites out via my evaluations...I've seen it all through this.

Now onto the business at hand. What I did was basically go through your site and take notes in notepad as I happily trotted along through your pages. I didn't give it the full, every page, super scrutiny evaluation....call this the demo version http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif These are just some suggestions I think could make the site better asthetically and easier for customers to use. I've added a few page URLS as well just so you know what I'm talking about. enjoy! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif
--------------------------------------
http://www.newtoothbrush.com/

Notes - "Toothbrush Plans" kind of clashes with the rest of the page. Might consider making it look like the table to the right of it (with the light blue header and dark blue inside). Or possibly add it to a left side navigation (see general note)

GENERAL NOTE: Might think about adding a left side navigation bar. Possibly containing the "Toothbrush Plans" as is shown on the homepage. What I'm envisioning is a left side bar with a header of "Toothbrush Plans" and the different brands under them. You could also possibly include the different items from the "Dental Shop" For instance, you can have a heading of "Breath Products" and underneath links to the brands you offer. What I'm basically saying is, use a left side bar similar to the one you have at 80sXchange, but make sure it's viewable on EACH page of your site. This way, visitors can easily shoot from product to product in as few clicks as possible no matter where they are at your site.
-------------------------------------------
http://www.newtoothbrush.com/faq.htm
http://www.newtoothbrush.com/tips.htm

Notes - These are pages where the side bar would help the page's look. With a side bar present, you could left align the links (which is a bit more of a professional approach). While on the topic of the links, it may be a nicer set-up to bring up a pop-up window with the information. The long page with so much blank space isn't too asthetically pleasing. There's a great pop-up generating tool at Dynamic Drive which allows you to control every aspect of the pop up window (I'd suggest making it non-resizable with no status bars, tool bars, or anything like that. This way, the window will be like a little bulletin board with your information and it can be any size dimension you want. Here's the URL if you want to give it a try: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex8/popwin.htm
----------------------------------------------
http://www.newtoothbrush.com/shop.asp?brand=6&category=1

Notes - Ok, on all pages like this, I'm seeing that yellow header on your product table. One word my friend...clash. Yellow is not doing you any asthetic favors. I'd suggest possibly a much darker blue with maybe a lighter blue or white text. The rest of the tables are perfect on all product pages http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Overall your site is quite nice, fast loading, functions great, and a nice idea content wise http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif My suggestions are not law, but just suggestions...take them for what they're worth to you. If anything, play around with the ideas and see if it works better for ya. Or maybe just use them as stepping stones to your own innovative ideas http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

And that's Evaluator Roem's two cents http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif

Hey GoGo! Thanks for the offer! I'm okay with graphics, but I will let you know if I need any more! I do appreciate that! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Roem, thank you for the tips.. I went and changed one thing because it was really easy. That YELLOW bar at shop.asp - I did as you said and I think it looks good. Let me know what you think. As for the rest, that will take some more time - and I'm about out of that right now.. I can imagine what you're talking about with the front page and the Toothbrush Plans area. I did intend for it to really stick out being black (like a hole, soughta - where people's eyes would fall into it) - but I can see what you're saying. I will definitely play with it as soon as I can. I think it would look good if it were the same as that other part in the middle...

As for the side navigation suggestions you made - that would be a good idea too. However, that will take a lot of time and will probably be the last thing I get a chance to do. I copied your message and made it into a txt file so when I get my first chance, I'll try more changes.. I appreciate these suggestions! You're helping out a lot! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif Hmm, just thinking about it - it shouldn't really take that long for the side menus at all.. Very cool.. I'll just need to work out the scheme of the menus. Maybe like "The Dental Shop" as a side bar... Hmmm...

Thanks again!

Sal
