Found an interesting article about the games of the 80's and their current revival.
Thought maybe some of you might find in interesting as well. Read it here. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=581&ncid=581&e=1&u=/nm/20040523/tc_nm/bizvideogames_dc_7)
I particularly liked the part about the Intellivision. Kind of gave the impression that maybe a remake was in the works. :)

This year's expo drew fans nostalgic for the days when playing a game meant little more than mashing one or two buttons over and over again.
This certainly holds true for myself. I am not really into all the "new" games that are all shoot-em-ups.

Its that way with everything! Go to a toy store and what do you see? Aisles and aisles of 80's toys. (eg. TMNT, Transformers, GI Joe, Zoids)
I wish i could just time machine my butt back to 1980 and relive a great decade instead of watching companies try to horribly duplicate it. :fight:

there is a 25 games in one controler based on the old intellevison out there in the UK shops, it may be available in the US/elsewhere (i should think so).
As for retro games, most of us who were the original players are getting of the age where the family has started, the house is semi-paid for, and have disposable income again ;)
as for the games companies, it seems to be part of the cycle that all games industries go through. I'm a figure war gamer, i have seen the late 80's complex rules needing something the size of a phone book to carry them, the early 90's backlash to slimed down rules (some even on only 4 sides of paper), and the slow rise in 'further complexity and realisim' to the point the industry has again said 'sod that for a game of soldiers' (quiet literaly!) and simple rulesets are back in fashion. Its the same with computergames. a growing fixation on fiddly triddly bits in games is now turning players off, even the suits at Nintendo are saying 'time to go back to basics, games should = fun, not fustration'. No doubt after a couple of years of simple fun games, we shall see complexity comming back in to computer games untill we reach the point where people will demand playability again! :thumb:
