Hey RetroMan! Great to see you back! Well, I did try to listen to that MP3 but the link didn't work. Could you check it and edit your post or reply with a new link? Or is it just me? http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//confused.gif

Yeah, when you do a search on napster for 'happy people' - you get an overflow of Shiny Happy People by REM - and, no it's definately not REM

It sounds a little like the 'Fixx'.Great song and melody there, would like to find who it is myself. The longer listening to this clip it sounds like the start of Modern Day Delilah by Van Stephenson.?Looking on Van's 2 albums there is no 'Happy People'.

woo hoo woo hoo!! are we getting somewhere here?? this is exciting! yeah it's a great song - very catchy, great melody, infectious chorus - everything you'd expect from an 80's song http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I discovered this illusive song when I borrowed a tape off the guitarist in my old band. He was in a group back in the 80's called UXB that did cover songs - and what you're hearing is one of the songs they covered! I've played the song to him over and over but he can't remember who does it!! he goes "sorry man it was too long ago"
and I go "Ahhhhhrrgh!! come on man!! think back it wasn't that long ago" what he did tell me is that the song may have come out around '84 '85 hmmmmm it's a start I guess

Hey Retroman Did you ever find the answer to this problem? The happy people problem? Can you tell me if the phrase "Band of Gold" is used anywhere in the song?

RetroMan

nup Creecher - it's a tough one I haven't had any leads on this one and everyone is completely stumped.
Last year I had another song I was after, that I never thought anyone would be able to remember but after about A month I got a winner! - so I guess I'll just hold out a bit longer http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif Unfortunatelly 'Band of gold' isn't in the lyrics. I've had a good listen, but no. why do you ask? can you remember a similar song??

Hmmmm? Split Enz wow! come to think of it, yes! it sounds very Split Enzy, but the production and the guitars sound more mainstream than the Enz, but, I won't cancel them out! it's the closest I've got so far there Ayla - thank you very much http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif - if it was a Split Enz song, it obviously wasn't a big hit for them because It isn't on any of their greatest hits albums (I have them all you see!)

I don't think I'm going to have any luck on this one - there has been over 211 people reading my post and maybe downloading the MP3 file...but no success - Oh well, might as well keep it on

SUCCESS!! the long running mystery is now over!!! we have found the elusive song!! Wutering Heights has a world class DJ for a friend and submitted the song to him - he promptly replied:
The song is called "Happy People" performed by former Adelaide [Australia] band FAB. They brought out a couple of other songs as well but that was their only hit.
So there we have it! that's why it had everone baffled on the board! it was FAB and they come from the City of Adelaide in Australia!! amazing! thank you very much Wuthering Heights - you have done very well there thanks!

Glad to have been of assistance!
Although the only thing I did was forward the mp3 to Mark, he did all the hard work!

Well, since Iīm new here, I donīt want to spoil your success...but I donīt think itīs that band you have mentioned.
If itīs the same sound file which was also posted on SPN and About.80sMusic, I have come to the conclusion that itīs actually a track by KAJAGOOGOO, "White Feathers".

How did I come to that daring theory? Well, Iīve downloaded this sample from both sites mentioned above (the original seems to be not available anymore). The quest begun...first, Iīve tried to improve the quality of the samples, one for the music, the other for the lyrics. Rehearsing it about a dozen times, I was sure that the words "White Feathers" were repeated often, so I took this as refrain. Then Iīve started a search at an online music store, www.jpc.de (http://www.jpc.de/) (this site is also available in english). Entered "White Feathers" as query, and the search engine gave out Kajagoogoo as possible match. Checked out the sample there, and if my ears doesnīt failed me completely, it matched to the downloaded sample.

Feel free to correct me when Iīm wrong...and RetroMan, I would be glad if you could send me the original sample via e-mail (by now, Iīm quite obsessed with solving this mystery )

Retro-man,
I've been away for awhile and noticed that your long search had come to an end with the 'mystery song' being"Happy People" by 'FAB'.Then another post saying it is White Feathers by Kajagoogoo. What is the final agreement on this one? Also is there a recording of this one anywhere? I too have racked (whats left) my brain out trying to find the elusive song.
Thanks,

Hey there Retro,

There seems to be something wrong with the link. But, could it not be Happy, Happy people by Yazoo?
