Most of you might allready know about this type of fraud. I got an email yesterday that looked just like it was from e-bay. It said that if I didnt login to my account thru their link I would be suspended. I emailed back to them and said I was not giving any info until I knew what it was concerning and then I sent a copy to ebays security dept. Ebay (the real one) emailed me back and said it's most definately fraud. They NEVER EVER ask for acct. info thru email. It was weird cause EVERYTHING looked ligit! Right down to the return email addr. So anyway be very careful if you ebay! Here is a copy of the fraud mail I received:

We regret to inform you that your eBay account could be suspended if you don't login into your account. If the security issue could not be solved your account will be suspended for a period of 3-4 days, after that it will be again operational.
Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us.
Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your
agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you may owe to ebay.

Regards,

Yup... I've gotten similar through my Earthlink account. I copied the header info on the e-mail and sent it to their fraud people right away... these assclowns that tried me were asking for all kinds of shit... even my PIN #! Idiots.

It's always a guaranteed fraud when they ask for your password... no online service ANYWHERE would EVER ask for you password. So the second ya see that, you know right away it's bullshit :p

Glad you checked into it first, Lisa. I got something similar from PayPal once, telling me I need to re-enter my credit card info because their database was being updated.

I'll tell you, I had a friend who's purse & wallet were stolen in Las Vegas & not only did someone steal her identification, but they SOLD all the information via the Internet. This was 3 years ago & she is STILL having problems writing checks & getting loans. She has to carry an affidavit with her at all times explaining what happened with her credit, but it doesn't help. She can't even get a decent bank account because the theives opened an account in her name & bounced checks all over the country.

Scary stuff. :(

I've gotten to the point where unless I know who it is that is emailing me something, I delete the message without opening it up. They have something like that with Paypal as well Lisa.

And anyone who falls for that should buy themselves an "Honorary Assclown" t-shirt as well.

We had been getting calls from someone who claimed to be Sprint concerning our cellular service, which I blew off because we NEVER had Sprint for our service, only Nextel. They kept saying that it was an "urgent matter" concerning our account.

Yesterday they called and Laura answered the phone. She told them that we never had an acccount with them, and of course they couldn't find any using our names....so they actually had the balls to ask her for her SS#!!!

I got the eBay email, as well as the one from PayPal. I promptly deleted both. All emails that ask for my PIN or my credit card/bank account information get deleted immediately...as well as the hundreds of other 'enlargement' emails, etc.

Speaking of frauds and eBay (which does belong together in my eyes too often  )...due to a tiny javascript attached to the HTML of the auctions, it is possible to fake the feedback score and the feedbacks itself. This means that anyone using this script is able to create a huge number of positive feedbacks although the respective member has probably opened it's account just a few days before.

Currently, the only way to "see the truth" is disabling any javascript in your browser if in doubt. eBay knows about this fault in their software for several weeks now, but says that they're unable to sort it out within a short time.

Just thought I'll leave you that 'lil warning here... :D
