Main problem...as far as I have learned, Japan has no major chart polling service like Billboard or Media Control but a number of chart services in competition - which might give you different results a) once you found the respective sites, b) you have installed the Japanese language component and c) you are able to read it (since most sites which are not aimed at an international audience are using Japanese fonts). ;)

The only thing that i know about Japanese Charts in the 80's was that 'Turn it Into Love', the best song from Kylie Minogue's 1988 debut album was only released to Japan and hit #1
