CURE FOR COACHELLA!

THE CURE are to headline the Sunday night (May 2) at this year's COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL.

According to the band's official website, thecure.com, Robert Smith and the boys are the latest act to be confirmed for the Californian festival, due to take place at Indio's Empire Polo Field between May 1-2.

This year's festival is already expected to include a headlining performances on the Saturday night from Radiohead, Kraftwerk and the highly anticipated reunion of the Pixies.

Also rumoured to be appearing at the festival are French electronica duo Air and The Flaming Lips.

As previously reported on NME.COM, last year's Coachella boasted a line-up including Blur, The Libertines, The Hives, Beastie Boys and The Mars Volta, and attracted 68,000 fans.

Further details about performers will be revealed over the coming weeks.

Tickets are to go on sale on February 14 and will be available through Ticketmaster.

General admission tickets for each day will be priced at $75.00 per day, with a limited amount of two-day tickets available for $140.00 plus $1 per day for charity.

I went to this concert last year and it was fun...not a total blast we waited in line to get in for over two hours...two hours in line may not seem like much but in Indio it was over 100 degrees. The Cure...that would be a great band to see again. I may just have to go again. Anybody want to fly out? Thanks for the info!

OMG, Stacy! Thank you so much for posting this! I have wanted to see The Cure for like EVER and thought I'd have to go to Europe to see them! I might have to make some plans to go to this... altho $140 is quite a lot of cheese.

Jillybean, to be quite honest, you only need to go one day of the concert. $75.00 is expensive but the show is fun. It is in the middle of noware...well it is close to Palm Springs which has some great night spots but two days, unless you are a huge concert fan and do not mind the opressive heat, are a bit too much.

Thanx, LB! I was thinking that if I actually flew out there for it, I'd only go on the day The Cure was there. Out of curiousity, what would be the nearest airport to fly into? And yes, 2 days is way too long for a concert. I just want to get in and get out. I hate the crowds but to see Robert, I could deal!

It would depend on where you are coming from and what airlines are available. The closest semi-major airport is Ontario Intl. Airport but I don't believe thatall carriers fly in and out of course there is always LAX but that is 90 min in the wrong direction. Palm Springs has a small airport but I am not sure what flys there. One day is generally enough for the Coachella. LAst year my frienda and I drove out early in the morning to our hotel, hung out at the bar with some other concert goers and then made the three hour treck to actually get inside the venue. We had a good time...there were two crowds those who came for the music and moved from stage to stage checking out all the bands and those who seemed to park themselves in the various beer gardens and did not seem to see more than one band. I had a blast and really enjoyd the Club DJ tent area it was a blast.
