One of my all time 80's favourites New Order is back with a new album "Get Ready". This is their first album since the 1993 effort Republic. My first fear when I got this album was that it would sound different from their earlier stuff. Eight years is a long time. It took me 30 seconds to realize that eight years was nothing. Nothing has changed and that's how it should be.
First track of the album is also the first single - "Crystal". A classic New Order track with catchy lyrics and the Peter Hook bass that makes New Order sound like New Order. :)
The next two tracks 60 MpH and Turn My Way follows up with more of the "YES, we are back" sound.
Next up is Vicious Streak. A slow song with lots of instrumental parts. Very dreamy and soothing.
Primitive Notion, Slow Jam, Rock The Shack and the fast paced Someone Like You are all tracks that shows that the guys has matured. It's obvious that Bernard Sumner's side-project Electronic has had an impact on him. The songs are heavier sounding and has less depth than earlier songs.
Close Range is my favourite track from this album. It's catchy (reminds me of Round and Round from Technique) and apart from Crystal the closest they come to a radio hit with this album. This should definitely be the second single from this album.
Last track is Run Wild. An acoustic song with folk-inspiration. Sounds like old Crowded House. A perfect ending to a very good album.
Get Ready might lack the come-back hit, but it's definitely worth a listen. A much better album as a whole than Republic and the 10 songs all brings something different.
