Hello.
Well the Depeche Mode "new" one (exciter) has been out for a while now, but I thought I'd share my views on it anyway, just in case you needed help in deciding wether to buy or not.
After the 1990 album, "Violator", DM's sound has changed from the sweet sounding melodic synth sounds of the '80's to a minimal synth drone and the use of real drummers and indeed a greater use of Martin Gore's guitar. The tracks are certinally melodic, but it is a little more subtle.
Exciter is DM's 10th studio album (That's right is it not?, containing 13 tracks with two instrumentals.
The tracks have less of the dancefloor sounds than their efforts in the '80's, with the acception of 'I Feel Loved', which is has a modern dance rhythm and sound to it. 'The Dead If Night' is a track that would be a home on a 'Matrix' type soundtrack, with it's harsh synth sounds (that are strangely melodic); compressed drum sound in one part of the track which leads to the chorus of :
'...We are the dead of night
We're in the Zombie room
We're twilights parasites
With self inflicted wounds...'
Charming huh?! It's a sleezy type song ('...We're the horniest boys with the corniest ploys...') with some great imagery. I can see the video clip now...(see my post in the Audio Video section).
The other tracks lyrics are about love mainly, and prove great background music when ironing work shirts.
As a BIG fan of '80's DM, this took a second listen, and there is really only one track that I am not fond of. 'Comotosed' could have been a B-side, in my respectful submission, but nonetheless, 'exciter' is a good album.
Ok Duran Duran.
I was most excited the other day, when I found a remastered and enhanced version of Duran Duran's album, Rio. It contains all the original tracks plus videos of 'Hungry Like The Wolf; 'Rio' and 'Save A Prayer. Also in the enhanced section is a photo gallery (of the band) from the Rio period(that's 1983 ppl)as well as the lyrics of all of the tracks on Rio AND an original track release date and B-Side details of the released tracks from the album. What more could a DD fan want? And all for only $22.95! (Well that's Australian dollars! Probably even cheaper in America...).
Ok and finally, the Pet Shop Boys are releasing remastered versions of their albums (not all of them though) that will contain B-Sides and previously unreleased PSB tracks! Fantastic!
It's all happening for the new romantic fans....
