View Full Version : VH1's 80's marathon
Did anyone see the top 100 one hit wonder videoes? I got to see a few minutes of it. A few I saw were:
Turning Japanese by The Vapors
Come On, Eileen by Dexie's Midnight Runners
Somebody's Watchin' Me by some guy(? maybe daffy knows)
I can't remember very many, I was busy with other things at the time it was on.
I didn't get to see it. But "Somebody's Watching Me" was by Rockwell.
Dang! Beat me to it TJ! You're right though, it was done by Rockwell.
I haven't seen the show either. Maybe I can catch it in the next few days if it's on again.
There was also a couple of Pop Up Video 80's only and some Behind the Music episodes of Styx and Journey and Lord only knows what else. 100 Most Shocking Moments were on, too.
BTW, Rockwell is the son of Barry Gordy, founder of Motown. Maybe that is how he has Michael Jackson singing on it.
djdaffy1227 5-23-01, 06:26 PM Their list pissed me off. There were many non-one hit wonders on the show. Rockwell had a second top 40 hit with "Obscene phone caller" riding the success of "somebody's watching me". That's only one example of their mistakes. I hope for better when I watch VH-1.
Was there anyone else on there we'd be interested in, daffy? Do you prefer djdaffy? Anyway, I hope it's on again when I can catch it. I always seem to be busy when the good stuff is on.
djdaffy1227 5-24-01, 03:27 AM The only other one that comes to mind right now is Tommy Tutone. He had a top 40 hit in 1980 called "Angel say no" a couple of years before "867-5309/Jenny". I know there was more but once again my mind is failing me.
djdaffy1227 5-24-01, 11:47 AM I thought of another one. Matthew Wilder's second top 40 hit was called "The kid's American" and like Rockwell it was riding the success of his big hit "Break my stride". I'll watch it again to get a complete list of mistakes. Dexy's Midnight runners had a second hot 100 song with "Celtic soul brothers" (I bought an import copy of their greatest hits to get a copy of that song) but it wasn't top 40 so they are a one hit wonder.

Oh No! Now I'm going to have "Break my Stride" stuck in my head. Love the song, but once it's stuck, it doesn't let go!

Oh... one more thought about the VH-1 one hit wonders marathon... did they show the entire video, or just part of it? I hate it when they don't show the whole thing. Defeats the purpose of taping it. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I'm not sure if they do or not. On this list I have of MTV Videos does not show one. If there was one, MTV didn't have it. Unless my list is wrong.
ah, now i know how to annoy Mary C...

"Break my stride" always reminded me of 'Io', the Greek myth story of the girl who Zeus' jealous wife put a curse on. She had to keep running forever, all over the planet. she wasn't allowed to stop..
(hey, that would make a great Nike commercial..)
