One of the songs my mom remembers us making her listen to when she drove us to school was "Electric Avenue" by Eddy Grant. We ruled the radio when she drove us around.
Oh, I love ABC..shoot that poison arrow..man, that was a good song.

This song was mentioned on another site recently. Not many of them knew it was about marijuana and such! Then we got onto Puff The Magic Dragon being a drug song. Although the writer, Lenny Lipton denies it. Of course you'd deny any song being about drugs back then, even the Beatles and the Byrds did that! Why write a song knowing that people are going to mistake the lyrics as something more sinister. What do you guys think?

Musical Youth also recorded a song with Donna Summer, "Unconditional Love", which I recall as being one of the prettiest songs she ever did.

Peace,

I remember everybody used to love that song! Funny that I never hear it on the radio anymore. Only ever got played back then when it came out.

This song and New Edition's Candy Girl never fails to make me break out in hives. Even though this song is far better than the New Edition, it's still a little annoying. I am glad so many people likes it though. It justifies it's right to as much airplay as it got/still get. :)

I heard that song recently...from AT40 Flashback, via New Orleans' 92.3 The Point (http://www.WCKW.com).

Aaah! Now I've got that song stuck in my head. Pass the dutchie to the left hand side....it was about drugs? I had no clue what that song was about. Or what they were saying. But it was a good song. :goofy:

Apparently the Dutchie was the dish that the drugs were passed around on. I wonder if people really knew what it meant whether it would have got banned. Especially when you consider that it was kids singing it!

I remeber they performed Pass the dutchie on an best of 83 concert in Dortmund. They also preseted a song called 007 at that show (Thommy's popshow with host Thomas Gottschalk)
