View Full Version : Cure or Depeche Mode...don't know which
astralis 12-18-03, 09:09 PM I heard a song the other day which was a popular slow melodic song (perhaps a ballad) by the Cure or Depeche Mode but I don't know the name nor which group sang it. I know it was one of them though. It was a mainstream song, though.
Any help is appreciated!
wavemaster 12-18-03, 09:41 PM Ahem...care to be a little bit more specific, like fragments of the lyrics or anything else to narrow your search? ;)
astralis 12-19-03, 01:33 AM I know it's ridiculous. But, if I get a list of possibilities based on the following clues then I can check out the songs:
CLUES
1. Cure
2. Slow melodic song (ballad)
3. Mainstream (which means it isn't one of the songs that's on the album that only Cure fans like and not the general public)
4. The song does NOT appear on the Greatest Hits album with the baby on the beach on the cover. :(
I'm actually fairly certain it was The Cure.
Thanks for your patience with this question!
That narrows it down to the first ten years of The Cure :) Hope that helps.
astralis 12-19-03, 03:37 AM Okay. That's a start. So, every song is a ballad during the first ten years? ;)
They made a lot of them in 10 years. Do you know a phrase, a word, anything other than a very general description
Here are some of their "ballad"-sounding songs that are not in the Galore compilation:
"A Forest"
"In-Between Days"
"A Night Like This"
"A Strange Day"
"Charlotte Sometimes"
"Primary"
You should try listening to samples of the compilation, Staring At The Sea, at Amazon.com (they SHOULD have them there). That's a better singles collection than Galore, imho.
Prefab Sprouter 12-19-03, 10:08 AM Would the song be "Lullaby" which includes the lyric "The Spiderman is having me for dinner tonite"???????????????????????

Yeah, but isn't "Lullaby" on Galore  Before he/she said it wasn't a track from the "baby on the beach" album, I was thinking along the lines of "Lovesong", but that track is on there as well.
Good luck and I agree with XXX, check out Staring At The Sea: The Singles. :)

Hi XXX - it was none of those - I'll try listening some more. Thanks!
most of us know the lyrics of both groups. it may not be either one...
if we had some lyrics, it would help.

If the song is not featured in Galore and is not one of the songs I listed above, then the song you're looking for is not by The Cure.
OK. Let me edit this to add: Perhaps you should try Bloodflowers, their last album. It's not mainstream, but that's an album I left out because none of the songs were featured in the radio here. Try listening to the latest Greatest Hits compilation (that one came out a year or two ago).
boingocure 2-01-04, 03:58 PM ^ Bloodflowers was not played on the radio that musch though.
Im guessing "Close To Me"?
