View Full Version : 10 Essential CD's
I thought of this after reading some of the responses in XXX's thread about your favorite albums from your favorite style of music.
What would be your pick for 10 "Must Have" Albums? You don't have to list Top 10, just 10 albums of any genre. :)

I thought you were a DJ (therefore, no vinyl and turntables) I've never heard of a DJ who spins from greatest hits collections before.

eh not quite sure what you mean there XXX! Lots of DJ's use vinyl and turntables, although the CD has obviously become more popular. I myself use CD's when I'm gigging like Daffy, a lot of my collection would be greatest Hits because at a gig, people only want to hear the hits of an artist. Its rare you get requests for unreleased material!! :)
djdaffy1227 11-26-03, 09:37 AM When you do get requests for a non- released single, you don't play it because only that one person probably knows it (out of hundreds of people there). By only having greatest hits and compilations I don't have to worry about somebody asking for "track 2 on Nelly's new CD" (Trust me, people ask that stuff  ). I am NOT a club jock. I play weddings and corner bars and high school dances and so on. All my new music is on CD's I get in the mail, they are compilations of all the new singles being released to radio. (AC, AOR, Urban, Country, and CHR formats)
Most of the club jocks I know don't use vinyl either. You wouldn't believe some CD players out there and how much easier it is to mix and scratch and do all the things a club jock needs to do on them. You can't buy these CD players at Circuit City, you need to know where to get them.
I still have thousands upon thousands of vinyl records from my early days of DJing. Including over 2,000 12" singles. 2,000 45's and thousands of albums. I still have one of my two Technics 1200 turntables as well.
I don't know any DJ that will play a non-released single. When at a gig you have to play what a majority of people know. I'll never forget playing "Jump" by Kriss Kross when it was brand spankin' new and everyone cleared the floor, a couple months later I couldn't go without playing at least twice a night. (That was in 1991 I think). If I had a dollar for every time I played "Old time rock n' roll", "Electric slide", "Macarena", "Cha cha slide" and so on, I'd be a millionaire.
As for the radio end of things, that is a whole different story.....
I like Prefab was a little confused by your statement. I hope this clears it up a little. If you have any other questions, ask.

Sorry about the confusion there :p Yeah, I can see if it's a top 40 crowd or radio how one would rely on singles only.
