View Full Version : Major Pet Peave!!
80slover 11-20-03, 03:21 PM This morning I was watching Good Morning America while getting ready for work and Robin Roberts was reporting on the bombings in Istanbul and she referred to it as the Turkish Capital. Ankara is the capital not Istanbul. You would think that they would know that. It really annoys me when they mess up basic things like that on the news. It just makes them look stupid. Ok, maybe I have too much time on my hands, but I just emailed Good Morning America telling them that they need to brush up on their geography. :hammer:
What are your pet peaves??
80sTrivia 11-20-03, 03:45 PM Geography was always my favorite subject in school, so that would have annoyed me too! My major pet peeve would have to be inconsiderate people. I try to be as considerate as possible at all times, so when someone does something that I feel is inconsiderate or rude, it really bugs me!

I'm with you! I hate when people can't say Please or Thank You! How hard is it to be polite?

Wow. That is incredible. That wasn't just a simple mistake, but a majorly stupid one.
Rhelawen 11-20-03, 04:08 PM I hate when people use 911 to call police and ask for a phone number listed in the directory. Call 411 for information, and 911 for emergencies! :irked:
My PeT pEeVe Is WhEn kIdS TyPe lIkE tHiS jUsT sO tHeY lOoK "CoOl".
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
80slover 11-20-03, 04:49 PM My other pet peave (yes I get annoyed a lot :D ) is when people use words that don't exist in conversation. For example, my boyfriend constantly uses the word "irregardless". That's not even a word!! It drives me batty!! I tell him, "Look, the word you want is REgardless not IRregardless!!" You cannot mesh two words together like irrelevant and regardless and make a new word.
He has cut down on that one now ;)
I also hate it when people pronounce the word "ask" as "aks". Unless they don't know how to read they would know the "s" goes before the "k".
Reading all of these pet peeve posts just reminded me that I have more pet peeves then I originally thought. One that bugs me is a person driving slow, putting on their turn signal, and not making the turn for three blocks. :/
My major pet peeve is having to drive behind some slow @ss in the fast lane. The slow lane is clear but they choose to stay in the fast lane.
Brand1974 11-20-03, 07:24 PM One of my pet peeves are people when they eat smack their lips or eat loudly. Add to that eating with their mouths open. Talk about wanting to punch someone in the mouth

I agree on this one too. Maryland is known for people to do this all the time. One of the things I hate about this state. People drive slow in the passing lane. Idiots.
I also can't stand when you're at a stop light on the road and some yo-boy pulls up with his rap music blaring loud and his windows down. "Hey assclown, don't feel bad if an ambulance or cop runs your ass off the road because you couldn't hear a siren coming"
Another one, is when cars don't get out of the way or pull to the side of the road when a ambulance or fire engine is coming behind them with their sirens on answering a call.
Last but not least, Solicitors who come to your door trying to sell something. I don't answer my door a lot because of this.
LOSTNTHE80S 11-20-03, 08:10 PM Current list as follows!
People standing in Walmart..talking on their cell phones...blocking the aisle..and not moving for anything!
People who are sitting at a stop light...looking over at you ..picking their nose! (Ewwww! )
When you are talking to a guy in the store (or one that stops to ask you where something is) and they stand there scratching themselves!
Old people driving..(now wait a minute..I know that they need to get around too and we'll all be old someday) but I'm talkin about those who can barely see over the dashboard...drive 20 MPH all through out the town..weave all over the road..stay at stop position at the light for like a minute when it changes to green...and go back and forth about 7 times while parking while trying to park in a space that's big enough for 3 cars!
Drivers on cell phones. Traffic is horrible enough here, they just add to the stress and clutter. I know "hate" is a strong word, but I truly hate those drivers
BlueMolly2001 11-20-03, 08:50 PM Here are some of my pet peeves:
People who who act like Dr. Phil and say "I'm just telling it like it is". You can "tell it like it is" without being so darn hurtful.
Drivers who get pissed at you and swear when you're crossing the crosswalk and they're trying to turn, and it's your right of way.
Teenagers who take up the whole sidewalk and have no consideration to people who are trying to pass them.
People who blast their music and when you tell them to turn it down swear at you and call you names.
Ignorant people who think I'm not visually impaired, because I usually don't use a white cane or a guide dog, and they make comments like "Oh I'm surprised you don't have a cup with pencils in your hand" when you do have your white cane and sunglasses on. (this happened to my best friend when she was going to a court appearance)
OK... i HaVe aLoT oF pEt pEeVeS, BuT i hAvE tO aGrEe wItH pAgAn oN tHiS OnE  LoL
Those were all great guys! Like Brand, noisy eaters make me cringe! Or older people moving their dentures around and making them click.. eeeewwww!
Damn.. I agree so much with everyone elses that I'm having trouble coming up with my own!
N0, NO, no! Pag4N 4nD tin4jO, J00 @Re dOin9 1t 4lL Wron9. J00 lePH+ 0u+ tEH nUM83R5... :p
As for mine, I just have to many to list. Although, leet speak is a major annoyance to me.
Metalfan83 11-20-03, 10:21 PM I agree with the 1337 speak, the slow, old people, and what have you.
But I have one other thing - people who are NOT handicapped that park in handicapped spots - and then look at you like YOU'RE the one doing something illegal. That happened all the time at the Mall of America. And it's usually some 400 pound fat guy or something like that.
And then I see someone with walkers or a wheelchair, or whatever, and they're struggling trying to get to the entrance of the mall, and on top of that, having to deal with the traffic that constantly passes in front of the mall. :grrr:
ShattyMcPants 11-21-03, 06:34 AM I've noticed this on more than one
occassion to the point where I
just marvel at the shere ignorance
involved--- I am refering to when
standing in a waiting line/ queue,
the person before you steps out
of line, (to maybe get or examine
another item) and then gingerly
attempts to resume their spot in
front of you! what nerve!!! I always
thought once you stepped out of line,
you've lost your turn, and you would
have to get to the rear of the line!
People spitting, peope not holding the door when they are in front of you. Old people who assume kids are on drugs by the way they dress and wear their hair and swear that the singers of their day were never on drugs. Nail polish that streaks. Mascara that clumps. Lipstick that looks totally different on your lips.
I better stop .

Metalfan, help me out....I've seen this many times, but I STILL don't know how the f*ck you do it??? What the hell is it????
Goddess....I must be old....
But I have one other thing - people who are NOT handicapped that park in handicapped spots - and then look at you like YOU'RE the one doing something illegal.
I actually saw a BMW - NO handicapped plate or ribbon - parked diagonally taking up TWO handicapped spaces. I wanted to key the side of that car so bad....:grrr:
As for the fast lane annoyance....come up to Dutchess County! Either you have someone in a minivan doing 45 in the left lane, or I'll be in the left lane doing 80 and have someone come up on me with their brights on! Like 80 isn't fast enough on a two-lane, unlit, deer-infested parkway!!! :6ohboy:
Here's a couple of more....
~ Idiot NASCAR fans (now, not all NASCAR fans are idiots....I'm talking about a selective few) who have "3"s all over their cars and call Dale Ernhardt a "hero". Sorry Cletus, but Dale wasn't a hero. The firemen and police who worked at Ground Zero were heroes. The men who stromed the Beach at Normandy were heroes. Someone who drove around in circles to the left and slammed into a wall at 200 mph is NOT a hero.
~ The same people with the bumper stickers that say "I'm not speeding, I'm qualifying!" or "I'm not tailgating, I'm drafting!"
~ People who try to strike up a conversation without thinking of what to say first. You have no idea how many times I'll be standing online somewhere and someone sees the tattoo of the Dolphins' logo on my arm and says, "Dolphins fan, huh?" No Hawkeye...I can't stand them, that's why I had their logo burned into my flesh.
Or I'll be waxing my car, and someone will walk by and say "That your car?" No Stephen Hawkins, I'm the Wax Fairy....I come out during the day when no one is looking and wax the cars of all the good little boys and girls. :6ohboy:

You forgot to add the phrase "Here's your sign"
My pet peeves usually deal with work, so many of you probably wouldn't understand, so never mind :)

Oh man....and I just watched Jeff Foxworthy the other night! How could I have forgotten that!!!
I rrrreally hate it when I pull up to the stop light and there's some dude in the car next to me digging in his nose and then non-chalantly puts his fingertip in his mouth. :ill: Come on-----unless you've got dark tinted windows, do ya think people can't SEE YOU? ugh.
DC Rebel 11-21-03, 11:08 AM Without offending anyone here on the boards, but my biggest pet peave is with hypocrites.
80slover 11-21-03, 02:21 PM You know what I hate, is when I am trying to post on this message board and people keep interrupting me here at work and ask me to actually do some work related junk!! How dare they? Don't they realize I am busy!!?? :hammer:
This work thing really is interferes with my life. :naughty:
surfnut 12-03-03, 12:09 AM I cant stand when people use the letter O as a number!!!!!!!!!!! Its ZERO!!!!!! O is not a number!!!!!
And people that suck there teath after they eat! (your cute when you do it Pinky) :p Sooo kidding!!
bittersweet 12-03-03, 09:17 PM Peeves-Many here
Food thats a big one-NO noises please.
Poor parenting-Kids runing crazy in stores
Parents who lack parental responsibilities
People without any common sense
just to name a few
ImSoooSure 12-04-03, 02:29 AM People who have you on the phone and have another conversation going on with someone else in the room. ARGH!!!!!!!! Drives me nuts!
When someone uses the ketchup or mustard (squeeze kind) and doesn't wipe off the top before putting it back in the fridge. :p I don't like crusty condiments. ;)
When people lie and say they are this person but in reality they are someone else. :p George??
Ugly Kid Jeff72 12-04-03, 01:29 PM I hate it when somebody takes the last beer knowing I wanted it!
Caligula 12-04-03, 01:46 PM When peeve is spelled incorrectly  j/k
