View Full Version : Starship's 'We Built This City'
Starship's We Built This City was--and stil is--my favorite song from that group.
Besides We Built This City, what other hits did Starship have?
Did Starship go by any other names? If so, what other name(s)?

They were the Jefferson Airplane 1st, then the Jefferson Starship, then just Starship.

As Starship they had:
"It's Not Enough"
"It's Not Over ('Til It's Over)"
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"
"Tomorrow Doesn't Matter Tonight"
"Sara"
As Jefferson Starship they had (just there 80's hits, 70's hits not included):
"Jane"
"Be My Lady"
"Find Your Way Back"
"No Way Out"
"Winds Of Change"
Jefferson Airplane was 60's and 70's, not sure of chart hits, but a few songs would be:
"Somebody to Love"
"White Rabbit"
My personal favourite of Starship's was Sara.
I remember in one of my first jobs, I was working for a small bank (Actually an agency for a larger branch) in a town called Mangere Bridge (A suburb of Auckland New Zealand) One of the less desirable townships of Auckland. High crime rate.
It was very quiet at that bank so we used to kill time listening to the radio, while watching undesirable individuals loitering out by the road.
We were so starved for excitement, we used to fantasize about the bank being robbed and none of us surviving. The accountant from the main branch (who we dispised) would have to come and clean up all the blood and body parts afterwards. (It really did get boring at times! LOL)
Sara was played quite often on the radio at the time and it always reminds me of that place. (Dispite how it sounds I did quite enjoy working there most days)
Oh by the way, there was a robbery once. But it was a break in late at night.
Only a teapot was stolen. LOL!
Trixter 12-01-01, 09:13 AM I like "We Built This City" very much, but my favorite Starship song would have to be "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", from Mannequin.
Iluvthe80s 12-01-01, 11:37 AM I always liked "Find Your Way Back".
Was We Built This City a #1 hit? a top-10 hit?

It was #1 for 2 weeks in 85.
I post all that crap, and all I get is another question.

Aww, my stalkee is not getting the respect he deserves! I'll take care of it for you TJ *smoochies* ;)
And sorry Jeff, but We Built This City is the worst song Starship/Jefferson Starship/Jefferson Airplane ever did in their vast and mostly splendid career. Their late '70s and early '80s stuff was great, but then something horrendous happened when they tried just a little too hard to fit into the '80s pop music scene. Count On Me from '77 is my favorite song by them.
Oh, well...at least I liked--and still like--We Built This City.

Actually, much to my chagrin, this is one of my son's favoritest songs. I've got it on two 80s compilation CDs plus the best of Jefferson Airplane/Starship, and he plays it full blast whenever he can get his hands on it. This and "Mr Roboto".
I had to go to CDnow to refresh my memory from my teen years, but there were other songs not mentioned that were done by Jefferson Airplane and their other incarnations that got lots of radio play:
Ride The Tiger (one of my favorites)
Somebody To Love
Miracles
Count On Me
With Your Love
Save Your Love

Not Roboto! These children and their torturous ways...
About 'We Built This City' I still kinda like the tune...a bit overplayed so it's kinda dried out, but I still think it's a pretty good tune :p
Sara Smile 2-13-02, 04:41 PM I never liked We built this city. I like the one from the Mannequin movie. I didn't know it was the same band. I am learning so much when I read the posts here. :) :) :)
Caligula 2-13-02, 06:09 PM I couldn't satnd we built this city. I like the old 60's stuff by Jefferson Airplane especially White Rabbit and I did like Jane by Jefferson Starship
