Embarrassed GM to Rename Car With Risque Overtones

MAKUHARI, Japan (Reuters) - General Motors Corp will rename its Buick LaCrosse in Canada because the name for the car is slang for masturbation in Quebec, embarrassed officials with the U.S. automaker said on Thursday.





GM officials, who declined to be named, said it had been unaware that LaCrosse was a term for self-gratification among teenagers in French-speaking Quebec.


GM officials in Canada are working on a new name for the car, a sedan that will go on sale next year to replace the Buick Regal.


The mix-up is reminiscent of another GM vehicle with an unfortunate name. In the 1970s, GM exported its Chevrolet Nova to Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries, only to be told that Nova translated into "doesn't go". Despite the name, and contrary to popular folklore, the car sold well.

I'm sure the car would be quite popular with French-Canadian teen boys if the name stays the same! ;)

It's nothing like the Toyota Jiz though :lol:

I wonder if they get the wrong idea about the fact that Lacrosse is a sport down here :eek::lol:

Actually, I believe its thier national sport in Canada, and not hockey as everybody would think..... Long nights in Canada I guess.

Prior to reading this article, I would've figured as much, but where's the logic in not allowing a car be named that when a national sport holds the same name? :lol: Personally I see more humor in a wanking term being a national sport than a car :lol:

Iwas trying to say that Wanking was thier sport. But the humor didn't come across to well. Ooops. :lol::laugh::lol:

I might've gotten that if Jasper hadn't backed it up as a national sport... I took the two posts in tandem :lol: Then again, he probably meant wanking too in which case I've entered.... the Toasty Zone **cue music** :lol:
