Rockabilly singer/guitarist Ronnie Dawson died Tuesday at his East Dallas home after a year-long fight with throat cancer. He was 64.
As a teenage rock'n'roll guitar prodigy in the '50s, Dawson recorded under the handle "Rockin' Ronnie D." for the Big D label in Dallas. His best-known numbers include "Rockin' Bones" (later covered by the Cramps) and "Action Packed." In the late '80s, Dawson, who was lionized by English rockabilly fans, revived his career with a series of albums for the U.K.'s No Hit Records. He later recorded for the Crystal Clear, Upstart and Yep Roc labels.
