it's only a category 1 or 2, but we rarely get anything like that . I was just outside watching the tree's bending in the wind :)
I think hurricanes are a rarity in the northern Atlantic--or at least that far north.
Caligula 9-28-03, 10:58 PM Yes they are. I remember one in 1975 that was sort of bad, nothing like the in the south , but it did unroot some tree's. We had one in 1995 and I lost some shingles off my roof, but for the most part we just get alot of rain, high tides and strong winds, but nothing too bad
I think the peak of hurricane season spans mid-September and Late September.
So far this year, Mississippi hasn't been affected by a hurricane yet! :)
Finally, I get a hurricane named after me :)
Roemello 9-28-03, 11:46 PM That's about the only force of nature we get in this area... It's kinda cool to be out in one while it's going good... then all of a sudden the eye passes over and it gets clear and nice as can be for a while... then it all starts over again
Haven't had one in a while though that I can recall...
Well yesterday and today we had gale force winds, but fortunately we never see Hurricanes down here. :)
nolanbuc 9-29-03, 06:33 AM Don't they call them Typhoons or Cyclones down your way, Recker?
And Cal, glad to see you came through it ok. :)

That is where I would have been also. :)
Glad you made it through the storm okay, Cal. :) We are STILL cleaning up around these parts from the last Hurricane...
sketcher 9-29-03, 09:10 AM I just read that a 4-storey apartment complex crumbled!
Caligula 9-29-03, 09:24 AM Well I have a whole new respect for all you that suffer through real hurricanes, this was only a category 1 or 2, (80-100 mph winds) so it wasn't like the big ones many of you have received. I was hit very lightly, but my home town where my father still lives (2 !/2 hour drive) got the full brunt. Two people died, and apartment complex collapsed, allot of barns collapsed killing horse and cattle. I think 100,000 people are without power, and big oak tree's are blocking the streets. The whole city of Halifax is shut down.
80sTrivia 9-29-03, 04:52 PM Hurricanes are certainly terrifying. Having been through the nightmare of Hugo in '89 and Floyd in '99, I can tell you they are no laughing matter, regardless of what category they are. Glad to know you are okay, Cal!

I've been living here in Florida since '93 and I haven't been through a hurricane yet, but I seen the damage they can do and the stories I've heard from before I moved here.
Sal Collaziano 9-29-03, 07:34 PM I must admit.. I'm quite jealous... I love hurricanes and big storms...
