View Full Version : Beasties!!
Nikki_91 4-30-00, 02:01 AM I guess I'll start this one..since I hate to see an empty topic.
I don't really know that much about rap, but I do remember first hearing the Beastie Boys.
They got their start in 84 opening for Madonna. Then in 87 I was introduced with License to Ill..of course, "You gotta fight for your right to PARTY!!!!).

Sal Collaziano 4-30-00, 09:02 PM Licence to Ill was a really great album. Great sound! If you have a good stereo system, it's extremely BASSey! Very fun to listen to as well.. One of the records I MUST get on CD. I'm not much into their other albums, though. Each had only a couple of songs that I really liked. Their most recent hit, Intergalactic, is very similar to those License to Ill days...

RetroMan 5-02-00, 10:21 AM They're certainly veterans! I remember a guy in my grade 7 class had License to Ill playing in his 'ghetto blaster' constantly
------------------
Sal Collaziano 5-02-00, 10:40 AM Oh yea. Wasn't it like 1986 when that album got popular?

RetroMan 5-02-00, 11:22 AM I believe so, because it wasn't until '87 when it took off over here http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sal Collaziano 5-03-00, 02:26 AM It might have been 87 too. I'm not sure.. I could always go check at cdnow.com but, I'm lazy! ...and in a rush... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/frown.gif

I lOVE the Beastie Boys. I remember them when they came out in '87 when I was in grade 6 and all the boys were saying that they were going to get the License To Ill cd. I just laughed, yeah sure, like their parents would let them http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif I've got Lisence To Ill, Paul's Boutique (my fav), Ill Communication, Check Your Head, and The In Sounds From Way Out, an instrumental cd. I love Hey Ladies, Shake Your Rump, Sabotage, So whatcha Want, Get It Together with Q-tip, and No Sleep Til Brooklyn. They are brilliant! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have a cassette copy of the Beastie Boys' '86 album, Licensed To Ill.
The Beastie Boys are one of those groups that never really fade out, they're always coming up with new material. They did hit a lull, however, with the release of "Paul's Boutique" but bounced right back! :thumb: I saw them in concert in 1986 and suffered the worst case of laryngitis, but it was worth it!!! Dancing Go-Go girls in cages on stage and a giant phallus to boot! I even liked the 'Paul's Boutique' CD! :)
Love 'em! And "Yes", Sal. I to think "Intergalactic" sounds like their older stuff also. Good music.
Roemello 2-10-02, 10:30 PM Geez...I never replied to this way back when...what the hell was I doing? Anyway, Beastie Boys definitely kicked ass! I even wrote the review for Licensed to Ill in our reviews section :D Definitely a timeless classic

Those are my 3 favorite Beastie songs also but not in that order.Fight For Your Right To Party is my favorite then No Sleep till Brooklyn and then Paul Revere.License To Ill is my favorite Beastie album.Don't care much for the other ones.I don't really like there newer stuff like "intergalactic".I still have there album from back in the day.(cassette not cd.)
majorfan11 2-11-02, 02:06 PM #1 - Paul Revere
#2 - Brass Monkey
#3 - Fight for your right to Party
Beastie Boys are awesome. I have most of their CDs(a relative took Liscensed to Ill, but I have back with the cassette.)
I like all their music, even their early rock. Majorfan11(mysis) and I argue sometimes about listening to them. She prefers songs from the Liscensed to Ill cd over anything else.
I have been a Beasties fan since License to Ill. That was such a breakthrough album. I have seen them four times in concert including the most recent Intergalactic tour. My friends and I were right on the railing next to Mix Master Mike.
I do like their other albums, as well although I still thin Ill is their best work.
My three favorite songs:
1. Sabotage
2. No Sleep Till Brooklyn
3. So Whatcha Want
80sSmurf 3-22-02, 06:11 PM Ahhh the memories...I was introduced to BB back in 7th grade. Spend and entire week-end listening to License to ill...Cranked up really high. Someone brought the casette, and it was an instantant hit with the lot of us...Excuse while I reminisce for a min....OK done...:D
I found out years later that they actually started out as a punk-band, bought some of that really really old stuff...*screams*
EGGRAID ON MOJO EGGRAID ON MOJO EGGRAID ON MOJO
That's definitely a song to remember :thumb: :D
I loved the Beastie Boys. My favourite song was Brass Monkey and I always danced to it at the teen dances. Some people mentioned on the boards they heard them in 1987, but I started listening to them before 1987, I forget exactly when.
I liked "Fight for your right", "Paul Revere" and "No Sleep til Brooklyn" also.
Well welll well.. a thread in the rap forum that I can relate to!
I love the Beastie Boys.. always have! :thumb: In fact, I just ordered "License to Ill" a few weeks ago from my cd club.. because I missed hearing it and... hell... it's kick ass!
I liked the Beastie Boys in the 80's, but their later stuff is a little boring. Brass Monkey and She's On It are my favorite Beastie songs.
I have to disagree with ya Flix, I really grooved to "Intergalactic" and "So Whatcha Want"!! Great tunes!!:thumb:
80sSmurf 4-07-02, 07:46 AM Sabotage is a great tune too...One of the best of their newer stuff :)
