That's a tough call...I can't give a list in order as I really don't have any top preference A few of my faves from the 80's would definitely include:

Run DMC
Slick Rick
LL Cool J
Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince
Beastie Boys

1 Eric B and Rakim
2 Public Enemy
3 Run-D.M.C.
4 Fat Boys
5 Egyptian Lover
6 World Class Wreckin' Crew (Dr. Dre's first group)
7 Stetsasonic

So many more I can't think of off hand.

Yeah! Those guys are really "Old Skool". From back in the very early 80's. Hey, Roem. Remember when Roxanne-Roxanne made a come back song to UTFO's? That was pretty cool. Kind of a like a dual going on.

Wasn't that Roxanne Shante who did that? Think the song was called 'Roxanne's Revenge'. It was definitely a direct reply to UTFO's song...

I am right now, but have no time. You see I don't own a computer. I use my cousin's one. Also just got fired from a job so now ill have more time. Plus i was born in 1984 so i was pretty young. It's wierd because i can't remember anything anyone tells me and recall it 5 minutes later. Yet I remember almost everything about the 80's.

Hah! I've been known to have that kind of "Selective" memory myself. Actually comes in useful sometimes... If you were born in '84 though, all of the groups I listed would have been out before you were born. Try and find some old Whodini stuff. They were really good (IMHO). See if you can't scrounge up a copy of "The freaks come out at night".

I have a 5 C.D. set of Sugarhill records, 4 C.D. set of Def Jam and 4 C.D. set of Tommy Boy records. All must haves for any "old school" fans. "the real Roxanne" was credited to The Real Roxanne but I do believe that was Roxanne Shante. Do you remember "Roxanne's parents", "Roxanne's doctor", "Roxanne's a man" and so on and so forth? I love old school and can't believe I forgot Whodini and U.T.F.O. Grandmaster Melle Mel did the rap on Chaka Khan's "I feel for you" and was a member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. How can we mention old school without mentioning The Sugarhill Gang, they were only the first commercially successful rap group.
