Report: Janet Jackson to Play Lena Horne

Thursday , September 04, 2003

Janet Jackson, the sexy pop singer and occasional actress, will reportedly return to the small screen to play Lena Horne in an ABC TV biography about the sultry crooner.

The movie is to be co-produced by Oscar-winning "Chicago" masterminds Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

Jackson, who most recently appeared in “The Nutty Professor” in 2000 and once had a regular role on “Diff’rent Strokes,” will sing all the songs Horne made famous.

"Lena Horne" is expected to air next year and will be based on Horne's autobiography, "Lena," co-written by Time magazine's Richard Schickel.

The announcement of Jackson’s new screen role came on the heels of rumors that she is newly single, having broken off her relationship with Jermaine Dupri.

The New York Daily News reported that Jackson dumped Dupri in a phone call to him last week.

Neither side has spoken officially on the reported breakup.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

This is great news! I think she;ll do a great job and certainly has the voice for it...and the beauty. Lena Horne is a very talented artist and I've enjoyed her work for years.

Thanks for posting this Stacey!

I heard that Janet wanted to play Dorothy Dandridge in an biopic but was beaten out by Halle Berry. I think Janet will be fantastic at portraying the magnificent Lena Horne! :thumb:
