View Full Version : Least Favorite 80's Duran Duran Song?
Iluvthe80s 7-22-03, 11:07 PM We have done lots of "favorites", now let's see what we like the least. We will start off with one of my favorite bands....Duran Duran.
My least favorite 80's song by them has to be "Hungry Like The Wolf". They just wore that song out on the radio and still do to this day!
Slayergrrl 7-22-03, 11:41 PM I can't really say a bad thing about these guy's. I worshiped everything they put out when I was a kid. I went with Notorious. Oddly that was the tour I saw them on. I fainted when John Taylor walked out. I still love them!
Roemello 7-22-03, 11:45 PM That's a tough one...would take too long to listen through all their albums to figure out my least favorite right now  So off the top of my head, I'll say 'Wild Boys'....never really cared much for that one :p
18th Century Brain 7-23-03, 12:34 AM "Girls on Film"
I'm as big a D2 fan as anyone, but I never liked this song. I finally got to see them in concert several years ago in Myrtle Beach and guess what they opened with.
The other songs on the list are awesome though.
ImSoooSure 7-23-03, 02:28 AM Is There Something I Should Know
I love this song, but if I had to pick a least fav. I guess this would be it. Tuff choice. I really love D2!!!
Well if we are talking about pre-breakup I was not fond of "Planet Earth" if we are talkig over all then I could not stand "Come Undone" although both sounded pretty good at the reunion concert last week.
I picked 'Union Of The Snake', as I think that tends to get a bit 'whiney' towards the end.
Prefab Sprouter 7-23-03, 05:06 AM Didnt like "A View to a Kill"
LOSTNTHE80S 7-23-03, 08:26 AM Mine would have to be Wild Boys..not sure why actually. Just never cared for it.
djdaffy1227 7-23-03, 10:16 AM I didn't like "A veiw to a kill". The fact that it kept "Raspberry beret" from hitting #1 didn't help any either :p
Least favorite Duran Duran?:bigeek: Is it possible not to like one of their songs?!? I'm sure it is, but not for me.
I agree "Hungry Like the Wolf" got way overplayed, but I still like it. Out of the list I voted for "Planet Earth" altho I still don't not like it.:p
BlitzKid 8-16-03, 06:54 PM I love most of their songs, but Notorious is my all time favorite! But i think i heard "The Reflex" too often, it is my least favourite.
Foreigner 8-16-03, 10:18 PM favorite is hungry like the wolf...least is the reflex
Johnny Z 8-17-03, 02:11 PM I'd say it's a close run between "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Wild Boys," and "Union of the Snake." But the vote goes to "Hungry Like the Wolf" because it got overplayed WAY too much.

Ooh, that's good enough to make "A View To A Kill" my favorite DD song, (I never liked Raspberry Beret). :p
My choice was other:
All She, Wants Is
All She, Wants Is
All She, Wants Is (ad nauseum)
80sTrivia 8-18-03, 05:39 PM Being a mega-D2 fan, I was hard pressed to pick a least fave song, but I wasn't overly fond of their song "Notorious", so it received my vote. :)
Jefferson Starship 8-30-03, 02:40 PM ''Girls on Film'' it's just sounds bad to me... I'm not a fan of DD so it dosen't helps! ;) But I like a lot ''A view to a kill'' probably the only one too!
DJ Midas 8-30-03, 05:29 PM I never liked the studio version of "New Religion." But the live version rocks! :D
The only one I don't recognise from that list is Planet Earth, so I'll vote for that one, because I like all the others.
JAlanLong 10-07-03, 06:18 PM Heck even Duran's worst songs are better than most bands best songs!!!
Id go for All she Wants Is or Cracks In The Pavement.

Hated their version of Perfect Day when it came out!!!
probably "notorious" i have problems with the whole "fame" concept. lol
but I agree that "union of..." gets winey.
Darn it! That was a tough choice. I refused to vote for "other" since I would have easily voted for their entire album Thank You, which was a horrible piece of crap and knew then that D2 had lost it completely (I refuse to acknowledge that album exists). This is not to say that their covers are bad. I think they made one of the best covers to come from the 80s with David Bowie's "Fame." So, instead of voting for other, I went with "Notorious." It has an annoying intro and it's just not as catchy as the rest of the songs - the riffs and hooks are just as annoying as the intro... BUT, yeah, this still beats anything that's coming out in Pop music nowadays (heck! Since it came out in 1986, it probably beat anything that came out that year too!).
I can't believe some of ya peeps voted for "Planet Earth" :( :tsk: :D That is a song that directly uses the coined phrase "New Romantic" :)
xistenza 7-06-04, 12:59 PM I voted for Notorious. That song has nothing good going for it. Sounds like it should have been a New Kids on the Block song. blech!
:yucky:
whistledog 7-06-04, 02:48 PM I love D2, but i could choose two that are equally ones that i never really cared for: I Don't Want Your Love and All She Wants Is from the Big Thing LP in 1988. I'm glad though that they both became hits in North America, but after that LP, their downfall began :bigcry:
ElectricYouth 7-07-04, 01:53 AM It was pretty tough for me, but I went with Other and chose All She Wants Is. I actually still like it, but I had to make a choice!
BCRichRocker4JC 7-07-04, 08:18 PM A View To A Kill. This was a hard one as D2 is a great Wave group and has the '80s essence.
Wild Boys... irritated me a bit.
Early Duran was the best, Planet Earth as mentioned, was pure New Romantic and was a landmark release in this movement. 'View To A Kill' and the awful 'Union Of The Snake' was a band in decline.
80s hair 4-12-05, 01:17 PM Wild Boys! This song does nothing for me :argh:
As with most of the voting public, I love everything they've ever done, but "Notorious" is my least fave because it doesn't really sound like them on first listen. I think what made it worst is that Puff Daddy sampled the song, and I had always pictured the sample coming from an R&B group.
80's fanatic 4-12-05, 10:59 PM ' A View To A Kill' was my least fav song
Tanya1976 4-14-05, 08:06 PM Planet Earth - blah, blah, blah!
Rhiannon73 4-15-05, 09:32 AM Ahhh! A bad song from my favourite band??!! Hmm...I'll go with Notorious. I really didn't enjoy many songs off of The Big Thing.
I really didn't enjoy many songs off of The Big Thing.
Me neither. They were trying to stay to sound 'contemporary' and it wasn't a good direction for them IMO.
Poindexter 5-04-05, 12:00 AM I didn't even have to think about this one. I love Duran Duran, but Notorious was not their most shining moment
Monty007® 3-20-06, 08:34 AM Notorious
80s Queen 3-20-06, 10:22 AM "Wild Boys." Definitely. Good song, but very very over played.
Mr 1980s 3-23-06, 12:27 PM "Notorious" isn't that great. So I'll vote for it in this poll.
GASP! The horror.... the horror!
How could you dislike any of their songs!
I love these guys!!!!!!!!!!
I used to dislike the video for 'The Chaffeur', but I like it now, thanks to seeing them on tour. I love it when Simon dresses up as a chaffeur and sings this song....so sexy....yum:dgrin:  :cloud9: :biglick:
SeaBass 12-26-06, 12:37 PM although i did eventually learn to love it, i would have to say "all she wants is"
80's Eric 1-01-07, 01:21 AM Definitely "All She Wants Is". I was surprised it wasn't listed as one of the choices. Like someone else said, most of the tracks off 1988's Big Thing would be a candidate for this dubious distinction.
ensignparis 1-12-07, 11:35 AM Had to go with Notorious. The other songs are just too awesome... they can never be played too much!
I'll have to say the worst song made in the 1980's by Duran Duran had to be "Drug". "All She Wants Is" comes a close second. Now if you are talking the DD of the latter years, that is another thing altogether.
fungirl3 4-14-07, 12:45 AM I'm not sure of the year, but "Electric Barbarella" is my least favorite song on the GREATEST album. But, I love Duran Duran, it feels wrong to speak ill of them...:(
80s Queen 4-15-07, 10:58 AM I know how you feel. The reason I put "Wild Boys" was because I'm tired of the song. But they're so awesome that it's almost unfair to pick any song and call it bad.
80's Eric 4-28-07, 03:53 AM I think Electric Barbarella was released in either '97 or '98. I remember when the video was played on a MTV show called "12 Angry Viewers" where they used to critique new videos. (Yes, an actual show on MTV that was music related!) The young jury totally ripped "Barbarella" and the sad part was I couldn't blame them- the song was lousy.
I'd say almost everything they made after the mid 90's.
Chancemurphy 5-04-07, 08:38 PM I though the movie A View to a Kill sucked bad. That is if I'm thinking about the right one, with Grace Jones...? I never did get what the deal was with her. She was gross!!! BUT I thought the song was cool.
Call me crazy, but my favorite Duran Duran song--maybe, perhaps--would be "Ordinary World," though I could not get enough of "The Reflex" when it first came out. Singing that song gave me the brief but false sensation that I was cool--if that makes sense.
