View Full Version : House Music All Night Long...
Sal Collaziano 4-28-00, 10:10 PM Well, this was one of my favorites during the late 80's and early 90's.. Yes, it actually lasted until about 92 or 93.. Doug Lazy was pretty big. Big Daddy Kane was sometimes on the House Music shows (usually very late on the weekends), Special Ed. I can't be the only one who remembers this great type of music. Could I be? Nah, I can't forget. Roemello is out there somewhere.. He knows the deal!
...Right?

Sal, you're extracting my memories like a sponge today! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/eek.gif Those names definitely ring a bell...how could I forget. I have tapes full of this stuff from my early mixing days http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif I actually did one sequence mixing house, freestyle, and dance all together...that was one kickin' combination http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sal Collaziano 4-29-00, 02:43 AM Hmm. I may need to buy some of these tapes from you! This type of music was still popular in the 90s when songs like Scenario, Strobelight, My Mind's Playing Tricks On Me were getting alot of airplay... So it's not all that long ago. heh. Remember Wiggle It? There was a nice house mix for that song... I miss this stuff...

Roemello 4-29-00, 03:06 AM Wiggle it...just a little bit, I wanna see you wiggle it...just a little bit, as it groooooves...lol. Yeah, it was definitely popular into the 90's. Let's see...I started mixing late '93, early '94ish and it was still cool stuff! I need to go searching through my tapes as I'm packing up to move...see what I still got.

Sal Collaziano 4-29-00, 03:41 AM Well don't get rid of ANY of it! Okay?! hehe
Oh, and do you remember the house version of Wiggle It? It had the woman singing the lyrics, but just "Wiggle it" over and over, soughta..

Roemello 4-29-00, 03:56 AM I think I've got a few versions of that song...not sure. Since my recent 80's rock/pop/new wave kick has been going, I haven't listened to much else but that, so I won't know for sure until I take a listen to what I got. I'm sure I will when I have time and don't have to worry about surviving another semester http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/tongue.gif...3 more days (next week) left til vacation...whoo hoo!

"Wiggle It" was sort of a cross between Freestlye and House..I think the group was 2 In A Room. "Break 4 Love" by RAZE, that was a priceless hit. I remember how much airplay it used to get back when I lived in New York City. Some other cult house/hip-house/freestlye classics I recall were "Turn This House Into a Home" by Craig G., "The Breeze" by 2 Without Hats, "3 On A Mic" also by 2 Without Hats, "Try Yazz" by the same band as well. Then there was "Borricua Posse" by Rare Arts, "She's Dangerous On The Dance Floor" by ?, etc. If anyone has any mix tapes from 98.1 WNYU/NYC, they used to do a lot of mixes with these genres..there was also Ken Jackson spinning on 91.5 WNYE, and ofcourse Hot 97.1 (NYC), it was Hot 103 first in the mid '80's. Also look for Red Zone Recordings..they used to put out mix tapes all over the city at the time featuring Roman Ricardo, Frankie Knuckles, DJ Raze/TNT, Cutlass, and so many other legendary NYC based DJ's. Peace.
