I know, this is a tough one because there were so many great ones!

Bands like Rush, Genesis, and Foreigner should get lots of votes.

But, my vote goes to /ubb/smilies/00delite.gif JOURNEY!
They were the kings! I listen to them all the time. I mean who doesn't like them? Even radio plays them fairly often!

What are your picks? /ubb/smilies/Question.gif /ubb/smilies/confused.gif

Got to agree, when you mention AOR most people think of Journey. Survivor are another great band. Never got into Foreigner though, they just didn't do anything for me. Lou Gramm has a great voice though.

Foreigner 4 was a great album!

But Journey Rocks!!! It's funny their songs are a big part of my life, you know how you hear a song and you say "Oh I remember blah blah blah" Journey brings back lots of bittersweet memories.............Separate Ways, Who's Crying Now, Faithfully.....

Survivor was another band I liked listening too in my teens when I wanted to be "a drama Queen" http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif you know..poor poor me!!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif

A couple of my favorite AOR bands are the Eagles and Fleewood Mac. Though they made their biggest mark during the late '70's, they still get a lot of air play on classic rock stations.

Another good band was the Cars. I was really bummed out to learn of the recent passing of their former lead singer and bass player Benjamin Orr. He sang lead on Drive, Just What I Needed, Candy-O, and Bye Bye Love, just to name a few. Good music! He'll be missed...

Yeah, it's sad to hear he passed away over here too. I was never a big Cars fan but I know they were good. I used to see that "Drive" video every morning before school. That was a great song to wake up to. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif Would Journey and Boston be examples of AOR bands as well? I know Journey, but not much of Boston. I almost bought a Greatest Hits (Boston) the other night but put it down before I got to the register.. Damn CDs are costing too much lately. $17.99 adds up when you like a lot of music...

I hadn't heard about Benjamin Orr passing away, what a loss!! I never really got into The Cars either but I am familiar with a lot of their music. They made a lot of really good songs, IMO.
Boston, along with The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, made bigger impacts in the 70's than in the 80's. But, all of them made music in the 80's, except The Eagles. Many of their members put out quality solo albums though. More than that, their more popular (and better, imo) work from the 70's had a huge impact on several bands in the 80's that in turn had an impact on us, which is why we discuss them so frequently.
I did see Boston on their Third Stage tour in 1987 (I think that was the year). They were headliners at the last official Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. They played every song from all three of their albums (at the time that's all they had out). It was a great show, the guitarist from Sammy Hagar's old band was touring with Boston at the time (Sammy was already in Van Halen at that time). He never missed a beat. If you are a fan of classic rock or something a little more mellow, I'd reccomend most any album from The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac or Boston. Most notably: Boston-either of their first 2 albums (Boaston or Don't Look Back), The Eagles- Hotel California (this was the first album Joe Walsh played on and the first one that moved them more into faster paced rock than the rockabilly, country rock they played on previous albums), Fleetwood Mac-Rumors (This was their zenith. They had many great albums before and after but this was their swansong).

What about adding Chicago to that list???? Something about Peter Cetera's voice that makes me get goosebumps!

You can't leave Styx off of this list. They were just great. Still love their music. Journey was probably the best though. Chicago is also a good choice.

Yeah... I'd have to go with Journey with a Boston chaser. My question is:
Def Leppard anyone???
Now there is truly an Album oriented band. 96 vocal tracks alone went into each of the Hysteria songs. Not to mention the number of guitar overdubbs. I wish I had that kind of patience sometimes. <img src="cool.gif" border="0">

Oh definately Def Leppard...but, I think that we'd consider that more Glam Rock than AOR...wouldn't you think? I myself am a HUGE fan of Def Leppards!!!
