John Taylor recently did a stint as DJ on a radio station in CA. He included in his set, Whatever Happens, one of the new tracks DD has been working on in the studio. Click below to check out the new song.

I am not commenting on this yet, as I am not sure if I like it or not yet. I have not been a DD fan for about 1986 or so.

Sounds like Oasis and U2 to me.

I was hoping for something a bit more upbeat :(

There's nothing new or original about that sound...

I am not sure what to think about it. It wasn't something I would expect from them. I don't think that it would go well and make commercial radio, IMO. Maybe something more upbeat would have been better. I would hope they wouldn't make that their first single if they are interested in a comeback.

I smell another comeback effort by an 80s group going over like a lead balloon...

I hope D2 does well...They could be seen as a sort of litmus test as to whether an 80s revival is viable.

Sincerely,

John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

I hope they go with something more upbeat, as well. They always tend to make the same mistake with DD and release a slower song as a first single due to the popularity of "Ordinary World" but it was that mindset that killed "Pop Trash" I think. There was some great stuff on that CD that could have done well but it was dead in the water because of the what the first single was.

I think I might be the only one who loved this song, but hey I seem to go against the grain when it comes to certin things. I hope they do well, and I'd go buy their new album when it comes out. I don't think they're coming near Buffalo, which is a total shame. :( Duran Duran is on my "Dream Concert list".

here is a review of the new song from the toronto star newspaper
Once you get past the initial disappointment over what this isn't -- i.e., the thinly veiled rewrite of "Rio" or "Hungry Like the Wolf" that we impatiently await from this reunited original lineup -- you can (after half a dozen listens) begin to appreciate this opening salvo for what it is: a temperate and heartfelt bout of hand-wringing about the future. As the song says: "We can't wait for a saviour / Only got ourselves to blame for this behaviour."

With that being said i like the song as well and will say that some of my favorite all time songs were the one's that grew on me and i will further add its better writing than what many of their peer groups like U2, REM, or Depeche have been putting forth in recent years
