Sal Collaziano 1-12-01, 06:16 PM Hey, I like dance music of the 80s but.. I only know two of those songs! Rob Base (It takes two). He's got a new song, actually. Hmm, I wonder if it's still the SAME Rob Base - you know how they do that. But the song is called "Ready to Party" and it's a good one! He also does "Get on the Dancefloor" - another of my old favorites..
The other one I knew was "Pure Energy" from Information Society. Of course, they do "Running" and one other that I really like. Hmm. I forget...

Sal, if you spent any time in clubs in the late 80s you will recall some of these songs. About half are what would be called industrial. Most of them aren't to hard to find on Napster.
Download a few and let me know what you think. The ones I would start with (most likely to know) would be MicroChip League-"New York" Ministry-"Everyday Is Halloween" and Camouflage-"The Great Commandment." Heck, any on the first CD were played all the time in the clubs I went to.
Well, Sal, I would call that a plathora of who's who from the 80's glam rock scene! In other words, that is one kickin cd you burned there.
Sorry, TJ, i never got into the Industrial scene. At the time I was too close minded to care. Now, I find myself listening to music I never thought I would like. Would you call the songs you mentioned there to be a greatest hits of the dance music of the 80's?
annual_mayhem, I would have to say yes. At least at that type of club. I don't have any idea what you would call "that type of club." It was where the crowd was mainly college age 18 to mid 20's. The normal (for lack of a better word, don't anyone take this the wrong way) people went there.
Sal Collaziano 1-12-01, 09:14 PM I'm the same as you, Annual.. Too closed-minded about other kinds of music.. And there are definitly two DIFFERENT kinds of dance musics! The kind I like and the kind that TJ like are very different. My dance music was played in clubs where you'd find a lot of IROC-Zs and Cadillacs, gold chains and Z.Cavaricci's. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif The days of guido's and guidettes...

Sal, I would like to see a list of the dance music you remember. And what years was it. I was going from 88-90.
Sal Collaziano 1-12-01, 10:05 PM Oh, jeez. This wont be easy.. The dance music I remember would be from say, ahh.. 1985-1990. I'll name a few:
TKA: Tears May Fall, Maria, One Way Love, Louder Than Love, Don't Be Afraid, Scars of Love
George Lamond: Look Into My Eyes, Where Does That Leave Love, Bad of the Heart
Judy Torres: No Reason to Cry, Love Story, Love You Will You Love Me
Shannon: Give Me Tonight, Let the Music Play, My Heart's Divided
Tonasia: Games of Love, Wondering
Cynthia: Change On Me, Endless Night, Thief of Hearts, Love Me Tonight, Dreamboy/Dreamgirl
Stevie B: Party Your Body, In My Eyes, Girl I Am Searching For You
Safire: Don't Break My Heart, Let Me Be The One, Love Is On Her Mind, Boy I've Been Told
Phew.. Those were a few of my favorites.. There are so many more, though.. I can't think of them all right now. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif But they're out there!

Ah, Freestyle. I also liked Freestyle music in the late 80s, even in the 90s. I had no idea it was called Freestyle until about a year ago. I don't know of any clubs around here that played this kind of music. All the Freestyle I heard was off the radio.
Some Freestyle I like (not all 80s.)
Shannon
Nu Shooz
Pretty Poison
Company B
Cover Girls
Expose
Stevie B
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam
Noel
Brenda K. Starr
Cynthia
Collage
Jossette
I like all kinds of music, I'll post my fovorite rock/glam rock next.
Sal Collaziano 1-13-01, 03:30 PM Yup, that's it. I liked all those people you mentioned. They all had some good songs (or atleast one good one). That's Freestyle. Some people refer to Rap as Freestyle, but that's totally different. That's why I usually call it Freestyle Dance music. We have a Freestyle section here but it doesn't get put to use much. So far, the only people I know that like it are Me, Mirdonamy and now you (well, do you like it?). I think Roemello knows some too, but isn't much of a fan.. I bet you haven't heard a lot of good Freestyle songs! I may have to suggest some to you...

Roemello 1-13-01, 06:19 PM Not much of a fan? Sal...I started my somewhat short-lived DJ career spinning Freestyle late '93/early '94. My old neighborhood was heavily into Hip Hop, Freestyle, and Spanish music. My mix tapes are probably still floating around down there somewhere http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I made 'em for everyone!
I love all freestyle from the late 80s/early 90s! Especially the females http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif Lately I've been more into glam, and pop/rock, but I'll never let go of my old favorites http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif I'm just experimenting in new music forms at the moment, that I too was closed minded to for so long.

Sal Collaziano 1-15-01, 07:20 PM Okay, maybe I'd forgotten. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif Dopey me. Our Freestyle forum is so dead that I figure nobody here was into it. I get forgetful.. Otherwise, what's this new music you're getting into? Anything I might like?

Roemello 1-16-01, 01:30 AM Well, like I said...glam, rock (hard and soft), and pop basically. Something to add to the list of hip hop, r&b, dance, reggae, latin, alternative, freestyle, new wave, etc. I'm in the process of finishing the playlist to Volume 6 of my "Back to the 80s" series. It'll be the last one I do, so I'm trying to get all the genres I can with emphasis on the ones I didn't include too much of in the previous 5.

Sal Collaziano 1-16-01, 07:08 PM Sometimes it's hard getting everything you need together, right? When you're so diversified, it's not easy.. Do you use 80 minute CDs? Atleast you can an extra song or two. I usually average about 17 songs per CD.

Roemello 1-17-01, 12:57 AM I actually haven't made the jump to burning CD's yet....still on cassette tapes for recording http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif I've been working with music for quite a while, so putting together a top notch mix is like second nature at this point. I use 90 minute tapes which gives me about 23 songs/tape. I finished the list, but I'm still reviewing other tunes to see if I can find something better http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Sal Collaziano 1-18-01, 01:41 PM Ohh. No CD's yet.. Wierd! hehe But I know how it is.. I guess it'll take a little getting used to when you start using CDs. Is it easy to record mixes onto them? Or is that the hill you've got to climb over?

Roemello 1-18-01, 04:29 PM There's no hurdles really....just don't have the excess loot to get a CD recorder at the moment http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif I spent over $300 on books this semester http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//CRYING2.gif
Sooner or later I'll make the jump, but for now, tapes do me just fine http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif

Sal Collaziano 1-18-01, 05:53 PM Darn expensive books. That's about what a good CD writer costs. Well, the books will serve good purpose - just like the cassettes do. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif No big deal...
