View Full Version : 80's countdown
Once again, here in Oregon, it's time for the Memorial 80's 500 countdown. Always a blast to listen to. :D  I'll post the top 10 here on Monday and add a link to the website for the complete list of 500. This is voted on every tear so it always changes some. Great weekend for the radio here.
Jefferson Starship 5-23-03, 11:14 PM thanks!! :hammer:
Roemello 5-24-03, 01:12 AM I found the thread for last years countdown....they voted Thriller as the #1 song  Now it was a decent tune and a great video, but someone must've spiked the water for peeps to vote that #1
Good #2 though with 'Hungry Like the Wolf'....should be interesting to see this years turnout
No, Thriller is definitely not one of the greatest songs ever written, even though it was a good one in it's day. But I can't imagine it being in too many people's top 10 songs of all time.
ImSoooSure 5-24-03, 01:50 AM That's so cool! I wonder if they do that here. If so I'll spend my weekend by the pool listening. :D We have a station that plays loads of 80s stuff. Mostly on weekends too.
80sTrivia 5-24-03, 08:41 AM I wish the local radio stations around here would do a Top 500 songs of the 80s during Memorial Day weekend! :(
Awesome idea. Wish they would do something like that here. Can't wait to see your list, Jazzy. :)
LOSTNTHE80S 5-24-03, 09:52 PM I wish I could find a station around here that would do something like that...
Actually..I preferred BEAT IT over THRILLER.
Going to be tomorrow before the post the list on the website. Damn those people. lol I'll have it listed tomorrow for everyone to see. :)
Been listening to the radio so I could post the top 10 tonight. I'll get the rest tomorrow. lol
Here we go.......
10. Thriller - Michael Jackson
9. You Spin Me Round - Dead or Alive
8. Rock Me Amadeus - Falco
7. Take On Me - A-Ha
6. Every Breath You Take - the POlice
5. Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams
4. Tainted Love - Soft Cell
3. Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
2. Rio - Duran Duran
And #1..................... WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE - BON JOVI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to agree with this year's choice. Such a great song. :D:D
Roemello 5-26-03, 11:25 PM And Thriller drops to 10...well, it's an improvement  I still wouldn't pick their #1 as the top of a 500 list, but I'll take it over the Thriller
Actually, just like last year, the #2 would be more fitting of a #1 from where I'm sittin :p Or #5...actually more-so #5... love that tune :)
ImSoooSure 5-26-03, 11:52 PM That pick surprises me. I love the song though so I won't complain. :D
DC Rebel 5-27-03, 02:09 AM That was a pretty nice list. Wanted Dead or Alive is my favorite song from Bon Jovi.
Prefab Sprouter 5-27-03, 05:28 AM BONNIE TYLER MADE #3?????? Nah, wouldnt agree with most of that top 10 but then I'm just critical!!!! :D
As for #1 preferred Living on a Prayer, but definitely an improvement over THRILLER
Duece5150 5-27-03, 07:20 AM Not a bad list at all. I love that Bon Jovi tune!
What's wrong with Bonnie Tyler???????? LOL That is one of my fave songs out of the 80's. Should be #1 in my opinion. :p:p
Here's a link to the entire list of 500.

Brand1974 5-27-03, 04:27 PM I agree with ImmSooSure about the #1 song on that list. I am kind of surprised that song made #1. It would be nice if a radio station would do something like that here in Baltimore.
Iluvthe80s 5-27-03, 08:22 PM Good list of songs! Oh how I miss having an 80's station here.
BlueMolly2001 5-27-03, 08:51 PM Great listing, but Duran Duran should be #1. Duran Duran WAS the 80s. :p
