I was wondering how accurate the Top 40 list is. What's the source on it?

Working my way through it, I don't see anything by The Cars... I thought "Shake It Up" and "You Might Think" were AT LEAST top 20...

Also, wasn't "Centerfield" by John Fogerty a top 40 hit?

They're very accurate, just not 100% completely finished on those pages yet. The original source is stated on the main top 40 page. I don't which parts were removed from the site some time ago, so I'm relying on others to point out the missing pieces so I can complete it :)

Those that you mentioned will be added when I got the time to pop 'em in :) In the meantime, if you do a search in the "pop charts" sub forum, you'll find whatever's missing in there :)

Ok, charts updated with Kim Carnes through Harry Chapin :) And to answer your question about Centerfield, that actually peeked at #44 in '85 ;) (geez...I feel like I'm Daffy  ).

Keep those questions coming! If you can't find something that you think should be in there, speak! :D

And btw....Happy Birthday!

These lists are as accurate as you can get :) They are based on Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Singles 1955-1999. Joel Whitburn is known as the world's foremost authority on charts. If it charted in Billboard, he knows it :)

"Centerfield" was actually the b-side of "Rock and roll girls", it charted on its own but, as Roem said, it stalled at #44.

Also, as Roem said, their are a few bugs. If you notice anymore please let us know.

One other thing to keep in mind. When you see a song from 1990, this means it debuted on the Hot 100 in 1989 but didn't peak until 1990.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know the list wasn't yet complete!

And since you asked to have missing tunes pointed out, how about Video Killed The Radio Star?

Often mistaken for an 80's song because it was the first video on MTV on August 1st 1981. This song peaked at #40 in 1979. It went to #1 in 1979 in the UK.
