Hey everyone.....the only reason this message is for people in the NYC area is because only you can answer the question. (Unless you listen over the internet, that is)
I ask you this....What do you think is the better Sturday night hard rock music radio show? The Tour Bus on WDHA 105.5 from 8 to 12, or Saturday Night Rocks on WNEW 102.7 from 10 to 2?
Why do I ask? Well, most importantly, I wan't to help promote Eddie Trunk's show on WNEW, and second of all, I'm just damn curious!
The Tour Bus plays more pop and what they call "pary rock" (Poison, Warrant, you know, HAIR bands!) on their show, and just about every week they always have what ever band is playing the area in as guests. They have a syndication deal that gets them all up and down the east coast, and a popular web site.
All in all, everything one would want in a 80's metal radio show.
HOWEVER, for those of you who don't (or can't) hear them, I say this....I've heard better radio D.J.'ing on college radio! These guys are unprofessional, and to boot, sound like idiots! Now, I am NOT a D.J., so I do not, or cannot do any better. But I do know some people who are, and the professionals have seemed to agree with me. Plus, if you go to their web site, and to the message board, it's total anarchy! I've never seen such bulls**t and mudslinging on a message board! I am SO glad none of that goes on around here! But it would have to get real bad here to achieve that level.
Now, Eddie Trunk's show on WNEW is a bit different. New music, old music, heavy stuff, pop stuff. I don't know the Tour Bus guys radio background, but I know Eddie used to D.J. regularly on WNEW before they went mostly talk, on Q104.3 (classic rock) and on WDHA, back in the good old days, when they had their original metal show on Friday nights. Eddie has the "radio voice", even when you talk to him off the air or in the clubs! Not that that qualifies him, or makes him better, but he does sound more professional, and he has quite the quality guests on his show, due to his friendships and business connections. Now, what Saturday Night Rocks' problem is is that it's on a station that doesn't really promote it that well, doesn't have a syndication deal, and doesn't have it's own web site (though one is on it's way). Instead of hearing "Cherry Pie" for the 20th week in a row, I got to hear the new Rob Halford song last night, and an old Thin Lizzy song I never heard before. Now, I'm not a big Thin Lizzy fan, nor did I like the Rob Halford song, but I got to hear them. That wouln't have happened on the Tour Bus!
O.K., I'm done ranting, and sounding like a bitter, ungrateful person who should shut up and be happy that someone is playing 80's metal on the radio at all. Also, I just want to go on record and say that I DO NOT work for WNEW, nor am I personal friends with Eddie Trunk. Have I met him? Yes. Would he remeber me if I didn't tell him I was friends whith someone he does? Probably not.
So, with that, I await your thoughts, comments, and admonishments.
Peace,
R.A.
