I know this show started in the 60s, but it was still going in the 80s. Who here used to watch the show? Which actor was the best Dr. Who? Who were your favorite companiions, and who were your favorite villians?

I used to watch Dr. Who for many years. I started getting into the show when the local PBS station started playing it in the early 80s. I have three favorite actors who played the Doctor, but my favorite of them all would have to be Tom Baker. He was totally cool, and I loved his scarf. My other two faves were Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy. My two favorite companions were Sarah Jane and Turlough. I mainly liked Turlough, because I had a crush on the actor who played him (Mark Strickton). Sarah Jane was THE best companion of all time though. And my favorite villian has to be the Delaks. *in her best Delak voice* "Exterminate, exterminate" I wish BBC America or Sci Fi Channel would bring the show back. I know both channels played them for awhile.

My brothers liked Dr. Who.....and I later found out, my husband is a fan, but I never really got into that one. I like other British comedies though. :)

My favorite has to be Peter Davison - I liked his cricket outfit.

I liked his first companions - Adric and Nyssa. I was completely stunned when they killed off Adric. None of the doctor's companions had ever died before!!!

My favorite villain was The Master. "The Five Doctors" is my favorite episode. I actually still have that one on videotape.

I have been an avid Doctor Who fan for the last fifteen years, and although there are countless memories about the show I can share, here's a rundown of my favorites.

Favorite Doctors: Jon Pertwee, followed by Peter Davison and William Hartnell
Favorite Companions: Jamie, Romana (especially the Mary Tamm incarnation), Nyssa, Ace
Favorite enemies: The Master, Daleks
Favorite writers: Christopher H. Bidmead, Don Houghton, Peter Grimwade, Terry Nation, Malcolm Hulke
Favorite producer: Barry Letts
Favorite stories (listed in chronological order for simplicity): The Chase, The War Machines, Fury from the Deep, Inferno, The Mind of Evil, Frontier in Space, The Green Death, The Face of Evil, The Pirate Planet, The Armageddon Factor, Full Circle, Logopolis, Castrovalva, The Visitation, Mawdryn Undead, The Two Doctors, Timelash (please don't shoot me for mentioning this classic story ;)), The Ultimate Foe, Dragonfire, Remembrance of the Daleks

Oh did I forget to mention that I have all the videos and DVD's so far released in the US, as well as many Doctor Who CD's, books and magazines, and a whole variety of other collectables?

To answer your inquiry, BlueMolly2001, I know it will be very unlikely for any major national network to pick up the series. It will take too long to explain all the details, but it basically has to do with the money-hungry BBC Worldwide office wanting to charge ungodly prices for a small selection of Tom Baker episodes to be shown at 2:00 in the morning (and it really is a shame, because this is the primary reason why recent attempts to resurrect the series had failed; both the networks you mentioned had at one time shown the series).

*LOL* RockBoy83, you really do like The Doctor. :)

A bit of trivia:

Christopher Ryan of The Young Ones was in the "Trial of the Time Lords" eps with Colin Baker. I can't remember which monster he played, but he killed off Peri (who I hated)

*glances at the 30 or so-odd Dr. Who videos on his entertainment center*

Yeah, I kinda like Doctor Who, a little bit. :D

My favorite Doctors were Tom Baker and Peter Davison (except his last season or so -- I hated those!) As far as companions, I liked best Romana II (Lalla Ward), K-9, and Ace.

And the Daleks make the bestest villains!

*slaps head*

How in the world could I forget K-9? I always loved watching him. :) "Affirmative"

I'm not half...er...one-quarter the fan my wife is, but I do quite admire the series. Unlike a lot of American TV SF, it's intelligent.

Strangely enough, despite the budget, it's pretty devoid of camp. Camp humor gets old on me REALLY fast.

Doctor Who is classy stuff.

I was a huge Dr Who fan. This was one of the very first shows I ever remember watching on TV. I used to watch them with my Dad when I was 5 years old. Boy they were scarey back then.

My favourite Dr is definitely Tom Baker, with Pertwee coming in a close second. I also liked Patrick Troughton, but never really liked McCoy and Colin Baker.

I never really had a favourite companion. I can't remember most of them, but I do remember the most hated one and that was Teagan. I just couldn't stand her.

I can't remember the name of my favourite villain, but they were around in the Pertwee days and they used to rotate their head around and there would be this sort of buzzing, whirling sound. Whenever they did that anyone they happened to be looking at would die.

Dr Who is still repeated often on New Zealand TV, but it has lost some of the appeal it once had. A lot of the plots are very similar. It seems they are always being chased through some labrynth by a monster or alien of some kind.

Ah, Teegan Jervanka. I used to like her, but after watching some episodes recently, I think she's one of the most annoying of the companions. She joins Mel (Bonnie Langford, who I like in other things, but as Mel, she drives me mad) and Peri (Nicola Bryant, who was horrible playing an American, why couldn't they find an American actress to play her).

I too agree that Tegan is a bit too annoying at times. This is especially obvious in "Four to Doomsday", where she can not, repeat, CAN NOT make it through one scene without whining, complaining, moaning, groaning, arguing, yelling, or fussing about something.
