My very basic intro to web class almost finished final project is at http://is286.nhti.edu/student21

It was fun to make, needs more work but pretty much okay for a first go

Please go to the end of each page, check all links, etc. Tell me if they all work, tell me what problems you have in your browser, tell me what you would have done differently, etc. Please be honest with me, I want a good grade on this!

Now here's something I'm used to as an accredited evaluator of sites :) I won't go too in depth since it's your first go and I'm sure you're not expected to construct a masterpiece (nobody can on the first go unless a genius  ). Ok...I use IE 5.5 at 800x600 resolution, 24 bit true color...

On the homepage:

A lot of the images seem to be bunched up on the top left corner and the opening text is spaced in the middle...should be near the top of the page. The links on the bottom of the page should be pushed up a bit higher....maybe add a spacer between the 'then enter here' and the links. Or, design it where the graphics are links....placing 6 on the left in a column going down and six on the right, with the text in the middle. You can still keep the text links too if ya want....just add a spacer inbetween.

Or maybe an easier way would be to just line up the graphics at the top with the text under it...

on the next page...

There's horizontal scrollbars at 800x600...it's generally good practice to never have those present :) Also, as with the previous page, things seem to be spaced out too far from eachother vertically.

On the pages for each horoscope...

Mainly....make the text smaller. Big text is generally a no-no unless it's on the headline of the page.

For general asthetics....don't do all caps for the text links at the bottom and make the text a little smaller...maybe add a | symbol between each or a :: mark...looks nicer :)

Again, that's just a few things....I didn't give it a full on brutal pick apart, but those are what caught my eye at first glance. The links I checked are working fine and no explorer errors, so you're good on that aspect from what I checked (again, I didn't check everything...I got a ton to do when I'm online, so I just gave a brief look-over to see what ya had) ;)

Good luck with it!

Yeah, I noticed that too about the second page--didn't do that in preview but it does it in the browser.

I cannnot make up my mind about the blips on the first page--I've changed them about a billion times :(

The only reason I used such huge text was that my teacher can't see very well--he asked us to make things readable for him, but he did say that in reality we wouldn't do that. You are right, though. Besides that, I wanted the site to appear a little silly.

Thank you for your input, I will tweak this site for the next few weeks to see what I can do--we haven't gone into anything deeper than just the basics of putting one together

I think I mixed a little advanced suggestions in there...not sure how far you've gotten with table structures and positioning things on the page exactly where ya want 'em...force of habit ;) Once you've been doing this stuff for years, one can sometimes forget how tough it is in the beginning...

Any idea on exactly how it's being graded? If it's just functionality and basic knowledge of how to display information, you're on the right track :)

Basically, Prof Wakelin wanted to see that we know how to troubleshoot HTML and JAVA on a rudimentary level (which I was able to do), how to use FrontPage, how to publish, how to update on disk or on the server, how to link, how to metatag, how to add backgrounds, how to manipulate images, how to pick out problems, etc. Just basic stuff this time. I added the form like he asked and made sure there was some JAVA there. We learn more advanced stuff later--this is pretty okay for an old broad who was scared of computers not so many years ago!

I know absolutely nothing setting up webpages, but I loved the horoscopes!
The only thing I noticed is that the jobs for leo and pisces are the same three.;)

Okay, I will have to look at that--I must have screwed something up there. Thank you
