I am facing redundancy from my job on April 25th 2003, I have been with this employer for 13 years. I work in a large office of 60-70 people, most of them have been here for the same length of time or longer, I have made some great friends here and it will be sad to not see them every day.
I have had three interviews so far and didnt get any of them and my confidence took a complete dive, I was so low. I am trying to put on a brave face but I am scared that I wont have a job when I leave here, the package that we will receive is basic and I do need to work, I am afraid that we may loose the house if I cant get a job quickly.
Also I am scared of starting again and being'the new person'
how can I cope?
any advice?
:(

Sorry to hear about your job, bington. :( 13 years is a long time to work for one employer. It's understandable that you are scared and worried about finding other work. I am sure you will do just fine, and will get a new job in no time. Keep your chin up and don't be afraid to try something new. Good luck! :thumb:

I know the feeling! I can assure you, things will get better. The best thing to do is look at this as an opportunity to find a new, challenging job. At least that is how I look at it! Best of luck.

I've been there too. You've gotten good advice from Rhelawen and Jasper. Just look at it as a new challenge. It is tough to look for a job and being the newbie on the job, but you have to look at yourself and believe in your abilities. A company is more inclined to hire someone with a long standing with their former employer than someone whose changed jobs three or four times a year.

I've had to change jobs twice since I was 19 years old. The first job I changed when things got bad (downsizing) at the company I was with. I was employed there for 15 years, had a house to pay for and a family to feed, and started with another well known company at a lower salary and worked my way back up.
The company had a 35 year history of no layoffs. That changed in the early 90's and I decided to leave on my own a year after the layoffs started. Our building was being closed down, and I was moving to Florida anyway. No job for nearly 6 months when I moved here in '93 and now, I've been at my present company for nearly 10 years.

Believe in yourself and your abilities and show those prespective employers you have confidence in those abilities and good job ethics. Good luck, bington. :thumb:

Yep. Been their twice. In fact I got made redundent only a few weeks back due to lack of business. (Which meant I had way too much time to post here and play in the xchange arcade.)

Fortunately I managed to get a new job about three days after finishing up my last job and I'm employed again.

The first time I was made redundent was back in about 1992. I didn't have any tertiary qualifications then and found getting another job quite difficult. But don't give up though and keep on applying for jobs. That's about all you can do.
