There are plenty more to choose from, but I think these guys sum up the best of the NWOBHM explosion. Which kicked more ass?

You know what was really cool? Back in the early 80's, Raven played at a small club in Yonkers, NY called the Rising Sun. My band played there all the time, so we pretty much had the run of the place. Well....it seems that the opening act before Raven was this band from San Francisco that no one ever heard of before. They were supporting their first album that was just released called "Kill 'Em All".... :D

Now this wasn't easy! #1. Def Leppard #2. Iron Maiden #3. Priest :)

Tina we must be twins :D

How you can make an NWOBHM poll without even mentioning bands like ANGELWITCH, TANK, PRAYING MANTIS, HOLOCAUST or SAMSON is totally beyond me...
And JUDAS PRIEST is hardly an NWOBHM band at all. They released their 6th studio LP in 1980 and can not be considered part of a "New Wave", can they ? Of course they played an important role in the definition of Metal but so did UFO, THIN LIZZY and a couple others. JP are classic 70s Rock, not NWOBHM.

Dude, once again I'll say it...bands that had some success here in the States. As for Priest, no they weren't technically part of the NWOBHM. However, they are frequently lumped into that category, because they didn't break big until that time.

You do have to calm down a little....

Dude, once again I'll say it... What has success in the USA to do if a band was good or influential ? Do you really need sales figures to like a band ?

Tinajo, he DID include great bands, no doubt. But he asked for the BEST NWOBHM bands and he missed out a large number of them. Bands like BLITZKRIEG, JAGUAR, SATAN, ANGELWITCH were never successful anywhere but without them METALLICA would not exist. They were successful by blatantly ripping off DIAMOND HEAD, SWEET SAVAGE or HOLOCAUST. All NWOBHM bands who should´ve been in that poll :-)

This is the point...nothing is etched in stone in these forums. It's just supposed to be lighthearted discussion.

In the "Glam/hard rock" forum there was a poll for best bassist. I didn't agree with the list at all, but I cast my vote and voiced my disagreement without being obnoxious.

We're not trying to set any standards for musical taste, knowledge or superiority here.

I'm thinking we might have to take another vote with someone on this board. It's eating at our goats... so to say

Priest! Priest! Priest! I may be a little 'old' school compared to some of you, but JP were kickin butt before most of these bands were bands.
These were great picks and we could all add or substitute our own choices here. Its cool to be passionate about our music but lets limit it to intelligent conversations and understand that we all have our own musical tastes and preferences. Start your own poll if you like.

Def Leppard then Maiden.

I'm sorry but I haven't heard of those other bands :( I bet they were great. In Canada the CRTC was really strict about how much Canadian content played so we really missed out on some great international bands :)

Are there sites that I could check out?

Iron Maiden are just unbeatable! it's incredible that my friends and I grew up as spotty teenagers, listening to it constantly, and Maiden are STILL dishing out world dominating metal!! I know some people call them dinosaurs, but they kick anyones butt by todays standards! UP THE IRONS!

Maybe it's a chick thing, but I love Def Leppard best; followed by Judas Priest, then Iron Maiden.

I had to vote for Def Leppard. They may not be as hard core as some of the others, but, DAMN can he sing a ballad!! mmmmm-mmmmm-mmmmm!!!!
