I'm curious about the vocals on most of the new metal bands, but are they using pedals(which ones) to get the real deep and growl like sounds. I would think that doing that all the time could mess up your voice.

Sounds like most bands these days are running the vocals through a flanger.

I honestly think in the case of death metal bands that they don't use anything to enhance their voices... mu husband has been a death metal guitarist and vocalist for 8 years... voice is still loud, growling and healthy! None of the bands that they play with use anything either... just pure vocals!!

I'm a vocalist in a thrash/hardcore band. No effects for me either. Just a whole lot of lung-busting.

They have regrouped a little, got rid of one member and gained two more and their new name is "Withintheflesh".. nothing out on mp3.com yet.. but soon!

You know I'm a total dweb on this subject but I always want to know more about music. Where might I have heard a death growl??? I hate to ask but has anyone 'mainstream' done this that I might get an idea?
