I was clicking through the stations when I saw this band on VH1 Classic. The song was Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing). Now, I can't claim to be a fan, because I didn't even know what the heck that girl was singing ( ), but I remembered someone here had mentioned the band before, so I decided to satisfy my curiousity and their fans' interest with a thread. :)
Did you know that the music of Romeo Void has been described as 'dance music for the mind'?
It seems their best known song is Never Say Never, from 1981, which has the line "I might like you better if we slept together".
Lead singer Debora Iyall is a Native American (Cowlitz tribe).
Romeo Void was formed on Valentine's Day in 1979. Iyall claims the name means 'Lack Of Romance'.
Iyall has said the song Girl In Trouble is in answer to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. ***question - - is this song about adoption, abortion, or what?***
The band broke up in 1985, but reunited in 1992 for a few benefit shows.
What do you know about Romeo Void? :)

Here's one!
They drop the "F" bomb in the song "Never Say Never" (featured in the 1984 Daryl Hannah movie "Reckless"), and remarkably, it's uncensored on quite a few compilations of 80s music.
Sincerely,

The album, It's a Condition received rave reviews upon its release. Perhaps even more importantly, Cars leader Ric Ocasek heard the album (supposedly, a roadie played it in the Cars' tour bus) and invited the group to his Synchro Sound studio in Boston. The resulting Ocasek-produced EP, Never Say Never, on the back of the enormous dance club and college radio airplay of the single, led directly to 415 Records' ongoing association with Columbia Records, who reissued the EP later in 1981 before ushering the group back into the studio to record their next album.

Does anyone know who directed the video "Never Say Never"? My husband thinks it's very Kevin Smith-ish. I personally think that video is before his time. Can anyone help out?

Julie Hayward directed some of their other videos. I don't know if she directed Never Say Never.

The first Romeo Void song I ever heard was White Sweater. It was a single in 1981 (?); b4 Never Say Never. I think it is better than Never, and it is a shame that Never is the song people base their opinions of the band on. Anyone who cares enough to see if I have a valid point, find it, listen to it, and get back to me. I welcome all opinions. I hope that someone will check it out, and then maybe I will find someone who thinks like me. Someone who has great music that no one really knows or appreciates.

I've always wondered about the meaning behind the song "Girl in trouble" as well. I guess we'd have to ask the band themselves for the answer. It could mean either abortion OR adoption.

They were on VH-1's Bands Reunited in 2004 and it was a really good episode. Wounded Bird Records just reissued their Benefactor album and Never Say Never EP on 1 CD recently.
