View Full Version : Alright.. Heavy Metal
Sal Collaziano 4-28-00, 10:04 PM Okay, Skyklad isn't here to start the Metal frenzy going.. I still miss her! But, nonetheless, it should get rolling..
What are you favorite heavy metal bands of the 80s? How about the new ones? The only Heavy Metal band I see now is Megadeth. Since Metallica considers themself (and rightly) Hard Rock, they can't be included anymore. But Megadeth, on the other hand, understands their mistake with "Risk" and will be back on the road this Summer with Motley Crue and Anthrax... Megadeth's new album will surely be back to their Metal roots...

Amy Livin 4-28-00, 11:40 PM Metallica is as heavy as I go. Exept for this one band called Napalm Death which I discovered thanks to my bro.

Sal Collaziano 4-29-00, 02:39 AM Cool. It's good to know there's still real metal out there somewhere.. No Megadeth though? I'm surprised! hehe I've really liked them since the song and video for Sweating Bullets. I thought that song had such a cool sound to it. Ever since then, I've liked all their songs after that - except for Risk. I haven't heard that album yet...

Sal Collaziano
Blaziegirl 4-29-00, 07:10 PM Love Megadeth, their my favorite. Sal have you seen the video for Sweating Bullets? I have that one it's really good, I think you'd like it http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah man! Sebastian is my GOD! Tobad the other fellows in Skid Row weren't as cool as he. I mean one can't complain about image during the Skid Row days, just look at Bolan, (If I'm ever getting pierced...thats the way i'm gonna do it =) but when they kicked sebastian out and wanted to play like grunge or whatever...just makes me sad.

Pretty admirable CD collection you got there =) Can you recommend something I haven't heard in line with the bands i wrote?
------------------
Born to ROCK!
Yeah he had some pretty awesome piercings.
As for any recommendations Primal Fear sounds like they have some Judas Priest influence if you listen to the song "Chainbreaker" I think you'll hear what I'm talking about. They aren't to thrashy but have kind of a melodic, very guitar oriented sound definitely worth checking out.
Another great band you might like is In Flames They have a much more heavy sound almost deathmetal-like with some very catchy guitar riffs and very good vocals they might not be your cup of tea but hey you never know. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

How ever, I'll check out Primal Scream.

Hey, just writing to say that Skid Row (and kiss) might be comimng to Europe in the near future which is cool. They may Also be releasing a new album in september.
Mudicker- U have pretty good taste. I dont know about Baz being the coolest though, hes the reason that they spkit up! He was way out of line with wat he was doing.
Check out the interview with Snake on Loras Skids oage for more info. That site Rocks.
See ya all later
------------------
Sal Collaziano 5-18-00, 02:58 AM Mudkicker, all your music titles were great. I like most of the same stuff. Welcome to the board!
What did Sebastian Bach do anyways? I never heard the story!
Oh, and that festival thing.. That sounds awesome! Geez! They need one of those over here in New York! All we get is R&B and the Back Street Boys..
------------------
80sXChange Homepage (http://www.80sxchange.com)
Well...I know Hamish and my oppinions here differ some...but any ways. In my world sebastian didn't do anythig wrong and the other fellows inte the band are a bunch of crie-babies but I guess I'm not thaaat objective =)
Anyway...according to sebastian he was fired because he wanted to play rock n roll and the other guys wanted to play grunge..or whatever...
The remaints of Skid Row at this point claimed that sebastian never had been fired, he quit. So Baz but up the anwering machine message on his homepage with Dave (the snake) firing him. =)
Now Skid Row or Ozone monday or what they call themselves started saying like "well he was an ashole anyway" and something about him always being a pain and he was the reason Skid Row had some finacial problem. I know Bach's philosophy is "as long as I can stay alive" and perhaps the rest of the band wantet to be like metallica I don't know. What I do know is that they never would have made near as much money as they did in the first place with out sebastian. he didn't write much songs on their first album but he sang them like noone else could =)
------------------
Rock 'n' Roll
Hi,here is my list. Don't really like most of the 90's bands except for the Foo Fighters and Creed.
My favorites are:
ALICE COOPER (BY A LONG SHOT)
OZZY OSBOURNE
DEEP PURPLE
RATT
IRON MAIDEN
POISON
JUDAS PRIEST
MOTLEY CRUE
TED NUGENT
QUIET RIOT
SCORPIONS
SKID ROW
JOAN JETT
Not a huge thrash fan but I love Overkill.
I also really like Doro Pesch andSavatage,
------------------
Hmm? another Doro fan. I didn't think anybody else liked her. The first time I heard her voice ("All we are") I was in love. The music is pretty damn good too so don't think it was just her incredibly sexy look that did it for me.

Hey this is my version of why Skid Row Slit up ( Who knows whos right between me and mudkicker? ).
The reason was because Baz kept wanting everything his way, and if he didnt get it he would say he wasnt playing. Also he was always late - there are severeal incidents, for further info see the Metal Sludge interview with Snake on Loras Skid Row page-anyway due to this and several other things (including Baz phoning Snake, and verbally abusing him big time) Snake one day phoned him up and said on Baz's answering Machine that he had lost a guitar player. Baz then said he would never play with the band again, and since then thats been the case.
They never were going to play grunge, and know they have reformed( minus Bach and Affusso) and are opening for Kiss's farewell tour and are releasing a new album.
You are right about Baz being a brilliant front man though, and they wouldnt have been as succesful without him. I'll need to check out his Album.
------------------
Funny Dave called Baz saying he lost a guitar player and Baz was the guy who didn't want too play with dave/the band.
------------------
Rock 'n' Roll
By the way Sal, if you live in new york you can check out Sebastian Bach live from June 13:th. He's doing a Broadway musical at the Plymoth Theatre. Jekyl & Hyde. I'm gonna go over there and see it my self (since i'll be in the neibourhood) Anyway...it's gonna kick ass. It'll play until october i think so it'll be plenty of time to see it. A TOTAL MUST!
------------------
Rock 'n' Roll
U know what i mean Mudkicker- well, if u read the e-mail i sent u- After the Band had Split up, Baz's lawyers said he would never play with them if they reformed. Sabos call informing him of his leaving the band happened a long time before baz said he wouldnt play with them.
Bach playing in New York sounds cool by the way. Any plans of him touring Europe? I couldnt find any on his Web page.
cya all later.
------------------
Thats not true Hamish at least not according to Sebastian. And I belive him. Actually I think the rest of skid row is....kind of lying...at least a distortion of the truth.
--
Well since he's working on this musical until October he wont be touring til then. And after that i think he will be back in the studio....but I'm not sure.

Rock 'n' Roll
Sal Collaziano 5-25-00, 03:10 AM I agree that Sebastian Bach has a sound all his own. That's one thing the 80s really gave us. Each singer had their own special style. 90s music sounded all the same to me. But like Scandal, I like the Foo Fighters. They're pretty cool. I only know of two songs, but I like them both.. Great band.. I don't think Skid Row would have been much without Bach..
------------------
80sXChange Homepage (http://www.80sxchange.com)
Skid Row had some good songs, but they weren't that good. They were late-comers on the 80's glam band run. And just like a lot of others, they broke up because they weren't strong enough to stick to their guns.
------------------
Sal Collaziano 6-01-00, 02:23 AM You sick psycho! hehe Just kidding. BUT! I did like Skid Row! I mean, I thought these following songs were great!:
Youth Gone Wild
18 and Life
I Remember You
These are really some of my favorites from the late 80s.. But, to each his or her own. Not everybody is going to like every band! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Um, do you guys really think RATT is _heavy metal_? Or what have I missed... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif
Anyway, about Skid Row... I think Baz is full of sh*t. Yeah maybe he's above-average singer and all, but his comments are just so dumb and he thinks he's a real rock star and so on...
You know his comments on Poison? It was in some interview, and he basically said that Poison is sh*t and no Poison fans liked Skid Row and vice versa. I believe most of you like both, right?
If you really want to know more about Baz and his screw-ups, read Metal Sludge at http://www.metal-sludge.com/
djdaffy1227 5-02-01, 08:38 PM Just gotta chime in.
My favorite 80's heavy metal bands are:
Megadeth- every video (except wake up dead) was great from Peace Sells to Hangar 18 to Anarchy in the U.K. to Sweating Bullets to go to hell. and all the ones I forgot.
Motorhead-"It's the ace of spades, the ace of spades" I liked them the first time I saw Orgasmatron on Headbangers Ball.
Iron maiden-My sister got me into them.
Judas Priest-kinda wussy yet kinda cool
Ozzy-seen him 3 times live and wouldn't mind seeing him again. the first concert I ever saw was Metallica opening for Ozzy in 1986
Anthrax-"I'm the man, I'm bad, I'm so bad I should be detentioned"
Savatage-perhaps the most talented band in the world!
There are others but I can't think of them off hand
I agree with you , djdaffy.. on all of your picks! Especially Megadeth, Anthrax and mostly SAVATAGE!!
Definatly a very talented group... in fact... I lived down the street from John and Criss Oliva in Tampa Florida when they were writing and recording Sirens, Dungeons, and Hall of the Mountain King... very nice guys.. and they were very sweet to a young girl of 11, (ME!) John taught me a song on the piano once, and Criss criticized me for not wanting to learn the guitar instead.
I was very sad when Criss died http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif I really felt like I knew him well...
Well... I have every 'Tage album in print.. some on vinyl... loved those guys!
(oh, and I still like Sebastian Bach... man is he HOT!)
And he doens't just "think" he's a rock star.. He is... he has enough loyal fans to prove that fact...
Just my two cents... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif
------------------
ROCK AND ROLL!!!
SAL IS A FREAK!!!
Later!! Tina
8teesBuff 5-03-01, 04:14 AM Ok welps... I gotta put my two cents and my shameless plug in here too!!
As of June 2000 I got back into hard rock. My 20 yr old brother, being a DJ, caught me up and got me into the year 2000.
Here is my up to date list (first)....
DISTURBED - have seen them twice and will 2 more times before summer is over!! CD is autographed and a coveted possession!!! Hung out with them for an hour and a half after a show in Columbus, Ohio!! Awesome, down to earth guys!!! LOVE THEM!!!! CHECK THEM OUT!!! (That was the "plug", my bro and I are on the street team!!)
Linkin Park - newer group, great stress therapy music!! (One Step Closer) AWESOME CD!!!! ALL songs are good!!
DISTURBED!!!!! (see above)
Skrape - Just bought their CD, it's only been out about 3 weeks!! Kinda Godsmack-ish musically, whole CD is GREAT!! (Waste is first release)
DISTURBED!!!!! (see above again!!)
Nothingface - A little harder than what I usually listen to. Just bought the CD today, so I am getting used to it. Their CD came out in March. (Check out "Bleeder", a tad bit lighter than the rest of the songs that vocally border on 'Slipknot' style, just not as fast. An acquired taste.)
OH!!!! Did I mention... DISTURBED!!!!!!
Saliva - Another new group. CD isn't bad, but in some of the songs the singer just emulates Kid Rock whom I CANNOT STAND!!! (Your Disease)
Sin-o-matic - Saw them in concert in December. They are from Cincinatti I believe, I will double check that. CD came out in Feb and my brother says it's great!
AND COMING SOON.....
From zero - friends of DISTURBED so it's a "family thing!!" CD to be released May 15!! Not REAL hard, but not too alternative either.... VERY unique sound, don't know who to compare them to. ( I believe "Check Ya" will be first release.)
Systematic - First release is "Beginning of the End". CD to be released sometime in May.
SOiL - I am planning on checking them out pretty soon, but I HAD to plug cuz a couple online friends I have are hoping to get the job of creating their website!!
OK... and now in hopes that you all haven't fallen asleep yet.... here is my CASSETTE collection from the 80's!!
Firehouse (First 2)
Winger (First 3, 3rd one SUCKED!)
Poison (2 or 3)
Ratt (Greatest Hits)
Kingdom Come (LOVED them, even tho I HATE Zepplin... man am I gonna hear it for THAT one I bet!!!)
Warrant (first 3)
Guns n' Roses (what 80's teen's collection would be comlete without Appetite for Destruction???)
and who here has heard of Blue Murder???
MAN!!!! Their tape was GREAT!!!!!
Oh... and I forgot... Giuffria...(Silk and Steel)
Ok that's all for now I guess.... sorry so long!!!
------------------
It's a lot like life -This play between the sheets - With you on top and me underneath - Forget all about equality
Let's play... Master and Servant
