Sarg's weekend trip gave me the idea to do this one! ;) (Thank You!) Plus, I expect he will have some great tidbits to share from all his meetings with her and the band! :)

Did you know that Pat wanted to be a schoolteacher, not a singer?

She was working in a bank and 'got sick of looking at other people's money', so she quit to try to start a singing career.

She was born in Brooklyn in 1953, grew up in Long Island, and was an honor roll student!

OK, folks, take it away!! :)

Pat's maiden name is Andrzejewski. Benatar was the name of her first husband (I believe).

Benatar began singing regularly in the New York City area by the '70s, where she was discovered at the Catch a Rising Star club and signed by Chrysalis Records.

In addition to her singing career, Benatar has been known to act from time to time, including the ABC Afterschool Special 'Torn Between Two Fathers' and appearances on such TV shows as Dharma & Greg and Family Law

You're absolutely right, TC. Pat was married at the age of 19 to high school beau, G.I. Dennis Benatar, who is a Hollywood Production Manager, Assistant Director, Actor, and Location Manager these days.

*Pat Benatar was nominated for 9 Grammy's during the 80's and won the Grammy a then unprecedented four straight times between 1980-83 for "Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female." Tina Turner was the other four time straight winner.

*After her first Grammy win in 1980 for the album IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, the next few years followed with sold out world tours and twenty five million plus record sales.

*Pat's "You Better Run" music video was the second video shown (after The Buggles' Video Killed The Radio Star) during the premiere of the MTV channel.

Pat and hubby Neil Giraldo have a beautiful daughter, Hayley, who sings in her own band and was a Golden Globe trophy holder at last year's award show! :)

"All Fired Up" has been played over the final credits of the very, very last NBA finals game on NBC the past few years. Why? Because nothing says "NBA finals circa 2000" like a rock song from the '80s by a white female. (joke) :goofy:

LOL @ Cartoon_Chris

*Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battlefield" music video was the first "spoken word" video.

Pat Benetar charted 17 singles between 1979-1999 with no #1 songs. The highest she charted was #5 wit "We belong" and "Love is a battlefield" (which went #1 on the album rock charts).

Pat sang on the Harry Chapin tribute album (I have it). She did an awesome rendition of "Shooting Star". It gives me chill bumps every time I hear it.

Also, didn't I read somewhere that Pat is classically trained?

Yes, I think I read that she can sing opera as well as rock. I know she hits some really high notes with ace precision.

As for something I know about the lovely Ms. Benatar...

She's worked with Disney a few times. Her song "You Better Run" was paired with clips from Disney movies like "Snow White & The Seven Dwarves" on the old Disney Channel's "DTV" segments in the 80s. For 1999's "An Extremely Goofy Movie", she covered Timbuk 3's "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades".

Sincerely,

John "outofplacechild" Kilduff
