These guys had a couple a songs that got some play on the local modern rock station, the highly entertaining Bitchin' Camaro (surfers talking about their cool car) and Instant Club Hit (You'll Dance To Anything) with their complaint that folks would buy stuff by foolish European groups before they would buy a Dead Milkmen album. Does anybody else remember these guys?

Don't forget "Punk rock girl" in 1989. They have a greatest hits collection called "Death rides a pale cow" a take on the line "Death rides a pale horse" from the book of Revalation (sp?) in the New Testament of the Bible. The Dead Milkmen is true punk music! not this crap psuedo punk of today. I played "Bitchen camero" on my show one night but will probably not play it again after hearing the line about the Doors tribute Band called "Crystal shit"

I did a little editing, "Punk rock girl" never charted. WOW Where was I? I just assumed by all the airplay it got that it was a top 40 hit. I am humbled by this mistake.

I like their song "The thing that only eats hippies." Hehe. I should download some more of their stuff sometime.

"Punk Rock Girl" and "MTV Get Off the Air" are the songs that stick in my mind most. When I lived in Southern California in the late 80's they were a "staple" on KROQ and 91X.

Hey, javajane, good to see ya!

Anyway, I love the Dead Milkmen. I picked up a live tape by them from F.Y.E for about 3 and change not including tax.

These guys are true punk...and they have a good sense of humor as well. Fine lyricists to boot (one needs only listen to "Punk Rock Girl" for some fine examples of wording)

Sincerely,

John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

I actually met the guitarist for the Dead Milkmen at a concert in 1993. He wrote "The chicken knows no Spanish on my ticket stub." I never realized how short he really was, but he was very cool.

Saw "punk rock girl" on VH1 classics tonight and it reminded me of the Big Lizard in my backyard which spawned Bitchin' Camaro which I think I placed on each and every compilation cassette mix tape that I made for my friends.

I've got 'Punk Rock Girl' on 7" single but I think it's the only thing I've actually heard by them.

Maybe I ought to do some crate digging :yesnod:
