Anyone else enjoy watching the Westminster Kennel Club dog show on cable TV? It begins monday night on USA network @ 8PM. I've been watching it each year since the early 1980s. I love ALL dogs, but definately have favorites I root for :)

Above all others, I hope that the English Springer Spaniel wins the Sporting group and goes on to Best In Show! Other group favorites of mine are:

Sporting=English Springer Spaniel, English Setter, Field Spaniel

Hound=Borzoi, Saluki, Scottish Deerhound, Afghan Hound, or Irish Wolfhound

Working=Bernese Mountain Dog, Newfoundland

Herding=Belgian Tervuren, Belgian Sheepdog

Non-Sporting=Finnish Spitz, Keeshond

Terrier=Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, Airedale Terrier

Toy=Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Pug

I watch them sometimes. My all-time favorite dog is the German Shepherd.

I enjoy watching the Westminster Dog Show as well, Femm. :thumb: My fave breeds are the Weimaraners and the hounds!!! :)

The only thing I remember about it was that every year wrestling was pre-empted to show this :lol: Being a wrestling fan that kinda left a bad taste in my mouth for the dog show.

My favorite dog is the Bassett Hound. I have had two in my life. Duppy who died at 4 months :( and Myrtle who I lost when I got kicked out of the house with my ex. (not wife but girlfriend, which is probably why she kicked me out :lol: )

My favorite breeds are the English Bulldog,Great Dane,Rottweiler,Mastifs,and Dobermans.

I like big powerful dogs,a dog you can wrestle with.Little dogs break too easily!:D

I like the Labrador Retrievers... I had a Chocolate Lab when I was younger... He was stolen because he was a stud and was "show" qualified. I miss that dog. :(
anyways.. I like Golden Retrievers, and English Cocker Spaniels too.

Don't get to see many dog shows up here...or if we do it's usually just the toys.

But my fave dogs are the wolfhounds. Irish, Borzois, Afghans and such.

Oh I forgot Beagles. I had a beagle as a kid. I also had a Treeing Walker Coonhound and a Bassett-Black Lab mix.

The thing i hate about Westminster is a foo-foo yappy ass dog always wins.You know what i mean those little furry toy whatever's.Give me a real dog a sporting class or working class to go with my pick-up truck:lol:

One of my staff take's part of her vacation every year to watch what she calls "THE SHOW OF SHOWS" , she has a couple pure bred Blood hounds (big red dogs with ample mucus) .

I myself like mid to large dogs

Labrador Retreivers (prefer yellow)
Samoys and huskies
Collie's

Hey Glenn, I like some of the"froo froo" dogs. Heck, I like most dog breeds. The only thing I hate about the AKC is that they don't recognize any other Coonhound breed except for the Black & Tan. Will they ever let the Treeing Walkers in, probably niot.

Me too! When they have a "mutt" category and I can enter my dog, I'll start watching. :D My Mom loves to watch these though. A total addict!

I like watching the dog agility competitions they've had recently on Animal Planet. They've got some cool dogs there.

My favorite dog breed is Labrador retrievers, especially chocolate. That's what we have now. Australian sheepdogs are cool. In general I just like mutts, that are big and not yippy little rat dogs. If at all possible, I will have a dog of some sort until the day I die. I love doggies!:)

The national breed club for each dog breed decides whether or not they want to be recognized by the AKC. Usually the main reason a breed club chooses NOT to be AKC recognized is fear of their breed being overbred by stupid people wanting to make $$ selling their "AKC papered" puppies, and flooding shelters with dogs that people later realize don't suit their lifestyle :(

I liked the segments on this year's Westminster about finding the right breed and breeder. I've had information like that on my website for English Springers for several years now....

I love the sighthounds too:) It was so cool that the Ibizan won the Hound Group. I was hoping Bunny would win Best in Show too. Oh well, sometimes I think the judge just picks the most "popular" dog. I figured it would be either the GSD or the Kerry Blue.
