View Full Version : Miserable as Sin.....

I know that this is probably a *really* trivial subject in a world of suffering and misery, but....

My Football side that I represent has been on a great run recently, winning the last 4 games that has put is in a great position to get promotion to the next league which would only be 4 leagues from Nationwide League Division 3.

However, today the party came off the rails well and truly this afternoon. We hosted a side 3 places below us in 6th place and whom we have already beaten this season 3-1, but after going into a 3-0 lead we somehow managed to lose 4-3.

But, worst of all I ended up scoring an own goal for their 4th, and that proved to be the winning goal....the difference between a draw and defeat :hammer:

I'm feeling pretty miserable right now. I very rarely score own goals as a Defender, and why oh why did the law of averages choose today to make itself felt. Can't help but feel that I've really let the team down today.....:(

TC, Jen, ValJ, Milani, Imsoosure, Tydestra....I need a BIG cuddle and fast!!

I'm not one of your All-female fan club members ( ;) ) , Steve, but I hope I can offer you a bit of solace! Sorry you're so forlorn after the game! Maybe if you pop into the "What's Your Outlaw Biker Name?" thread, it might put a smile on your face! If that doesn't work, head into the LL and read one of the hilarious Mad Libs!!!

There, there dahlin'. Let me make it all better. :naughty:

I'm sooo sorry to hear about the loss of your game. I know very little about the game. My boys played when they were in grade school, but somehow I don't think the scoring is the same.

Blame the others for the previous 3 goals which brought the opposite team to an equal score... ;)

Yeah, I know how it feels when you are "guilty"...happened to me during a rugby match when I had mistakenly passed the pill to a member of the opposing team (now, our shirts were yellow and black, their shirts were striped black and white, so much for my colourblindness  ) and he had just to walk the 20 meters to lay down the pill behind our goal.
Of course, the game was almost over when I did that fatal mistake and so we had lost it, but my fellow camarades were decent enough not to keep up my personal misery any longer than needed (with exception of the coach who had tortured me for the following two weeks during training :D) - the good spirit between us was restored a few beers later.

And I think that there are some more fixtures to go, so I wouldn't worry too much about that botched game for now.

I said the same thing to Bill Buckner in 1986

I think everybody who has played organized team sports has at one time or another had the misfortune of making a big mistake. Remember that even though you knocked the winning goal in, your team had a 3 nothing lead , the last goal is no more important than the first. For the most part your playing for the love of the game , by tomorrow it's all forgotten. I'm sorry you team lost, and better luck in the future

Sorry to hear about your bad game Choppper. my friend Matt finds it very amusing when I score my own goal in Superstar Soccer when we have a tournament (it's humilliating enough and it's only a console game!).

I guess there is always a risk in sports where you work as a team, where each person has their responsibilies. I bet it's happened to everyone at one time or another, it was just very bad timing to happen today.

go easy on yourself :thumb:
