View Full Version : I hope to be back online (from home) soon!
This morning, my computer's modem--a Compaq Deskpro 4000--was taken to a computer repair shop to be reconfigured for Internet use.
Last month, the Compaq modem arrived via UPS (United Parcel Service). It was either my Dad's old modem, or he bought it from eBay (for $100).
On October 24, 2002, my computer's original modem--a Gateway 400c--suddenly malfunctioned. I heard it would cost $500 to fix it...and that it wasn't worth fixing. I guess that modem was simply considered outdated. :(
And since October 30th of that year, I've been using a local library's public computer.
But at least I now have a different modem--and it works!!! :)
The problem is, that modem's not yet Internet-ready. :(
Congratulations, and welcome back to full time duty, JS! :thumb:

I'll be glad to resume normal (from-home) posting, too! :)
That bites the big one, eh? ;) Hope the next modem doesn't go berserk on ya...

nolanbuc 2-10-03, 01:58 PM AAAAAH! I hate downtime! Hope yo get back online soon! :)
Saturday evening, I found out that the replacement modem, a Compaq Deskpro 4000, wasn't Internet-worthy (even though it did function somewhat). Like the other modem I have, a Gateway 400c, the Compaq is considered shot.
Even if the Compaq modem were Internet-worthy, it wouldn't be Internet-worthy for long.
Obviously, that means I'll need a new computer...or, at least a brand-new modem. And I'm gonna continue using a local library's public computer.
:( :( :( :( :(
Rhelawen 2-10-03, 04:41 PM Eep, computer problems are so frustrating. Especially if they keep you offline. :( I had the DT's really bad when I moved out of my apartment to the place I'm in now. I was without DSL for 2 weeks! After the first week, I bought a cheepo dial-up modem, and mooched off a friend's dialup account till I got my DSL back. I was a real bear during that time.
Good luck with your computer, JS! Logging in at the library should stave off withdrawals for the time being. :)

I agree! :)
I first visited the library for (primarily) Internet purposes in October, 2002.
Oh, and I may get a new modem (or even a new computer!) sooner than I think! :) :)
