Just a little non 80's topic. I was looking through some boxes in the attic today and found an old address book. These contained the phone numbers of the people I met while my daughter was going through her treatments in 1992. I looked through it and eliminated the ones I knew who were divorced, had moved away, etc...

I came to one name...I called it..Mary answered and we spent about 40 min. on the phone trying to catch up some. I hadn't spoken with her for at least 7 years. They are moving closer to our town in a few months and we're really going to try to get together. Her son Billy..passed away just a couple of months after Carrie..he would be 23 now.

I spoke with another woman just last week who's daughter would be 25 now. She wants to try and track most if not all of our little group down. We were all there for each other. Many a cup of coffee and tears were shed at 3 am. some mornings. We all have a special bond..even if we don't have anything in common...except for our angels.

I am very happy for you that you can look back at such a tough time and find happiness. You are an incredible woman, and I am so proud to be your friend.

It's good that you can get together with the other women and be able to talk about things in a different light. None of you will ever forget those sad times and the tears that were shed, but you all have been through it and can now talk as friends. You are all strong women, and you have put into action this reunion of sorts.
I applaud you, Jana.

Thanks all..most of them are still in the Missouri/Illinois area & three are in Florida..we know that. We have also been keeping tabs on our favorite doctor, he is at St. Jude's Hospital now..so he'll be easy to get ahold of.

Some of the parents get together once a year..we used to have an early Thanksgiving dinner together but that's changed in the past couple of years.

I think this is funny timing that I found that address book after all this time...but maybe it's meant to be since Carrie would be a teenager next month. :)

Rest assured you have angels indeed... and they speak through you in many ways. I believe you just gave an example. Hope you can locate most of the group.

I do too...:) Out of about 20 families that we got to know closely, only 2 children are survivors. On rough days, some of us would walk the few blocks to this restraunt/bar for a couple of hours (we'd tell the nurses where we were going and they knew how to get ahold of us if needed..) share a pitcher of something and have the best food. Now..I am totally serious about this...their steaks were so tender, you could use a plastic fork and knife to cut it.

What was funny, is that when we would come back, security would just look the other way LOL,,,they knew that we were all from the oncology/hematology floor and that we had needed that break. We were treated royally. :)
