View Full Version : Steven Spielberg Presents TAKEN
Is anybody planning on watching the 10 part miniseries "TAKEN" directed by Steven Spielberg? It's a story of alien abductions and three families that are affected by the events. I've been reading the book by Thomas Cook, which is based on the series created by Leslie Boem, and I plan on watching this series. For me, it's like being back in the 80's waiting for the series "V" to come on tv.
The series starts on December 2nd on the Sci-Fi channel. Check your local listings for the times.

Iluvthe80s 11-29-02, 09:52 PM I plan on watching it. I didn't realize it was 10 parts though. Will it air every night until finished?
According to my cable listings, it's on every day for the ten parts and each episode is repeated each day also. Each episode is two hours long, starts at 7PM EST, and another episode follows so you can catch each episode depending on the time you want to watch it because the episodes run until 2AM EST. TAKEN does not show any episodes during the weekend (Sat&Sun) but start up again on Monday the following week.
Roemello 11-30-02, 04:55 PM Now that I see they're airing it more than once a day, I'll be watching :D It just can't interfere with Monday and Thursday wrestling nights :p

Darkmatter 12-02-02, 10:43 AM If my, err... friends bring me back in time... sure I'll catch it. ;)
Glenn Gulia 12-03-02, 01:13 AM It sez in the TV guide there will be a marathon of all 5 shows on the weekends. Saturday 11:00 am to 9:00pm eastern Sunday 11 to 9 eastern. Next weekend the same deal.
I watched the first one at 9PM tonight and enjoyed it, now I can't wait to watch the next episode. I think I'm going to be glued to this series. I'm on the last chapter of the book and I think I'm going to wait for the end of the series to find out what happens, so I don't spoil the ending for myself.
Glenn Gulia 12-03-02, 01:28 AM I watched monday night football (Raider fan). Now i'm watching 1:00 am showing. Forgot it started tonight, thank god i'm off work tomorrow.
All the reviews I have read are good ones. :thumb:
I don't have sci-fi channel. Maybe in time it will come out on video? :)
Iluvthe80s 12-03-02, 06:39 AM I was watching it last night as well. It really has my interest up and can't wait to see tonight's episode.
I have been taping it this week. I have to remember to change tapes on Friday though, the series is eating up tapes like nobody's business.
Iluvthe80s 12-07-02, 04:42 PM So, how is everyone enjoying this miniseries so far? It has me glued to the TV every evening. I can't wait to see Monday's episode!
By the way, does anyone know if this the longest miniseries ever? Think about it, it is a total of 20 hours long if you put all episodes together.
Like you Stacy, I've been glued every night to watch TAKEN. I was reading the novel up until the series started last monday and left it just as I got to Part 10 so I could be surprised at the end.
There's another guy at work that has been watching it and we spend a lot of time talking about the previous nights episode.
I'm addicted!!! :D
TAKEN
This SCI FI series has been awesome. There's been some really cool effects and some very ruthless characters in this series. If you've been glued to your tv set watching this ten part series, talk about it here.
The little girl, Allie in tonights episode has done some mind blowing things. She's shown great powers and she's so cute too. If your not watching "TAKEN," you're missing out!!
I'd love to see TAKEN come out on DVD.
Cartoon_Chris 12-11-02, 02:02 AM I saw the title of this thread and read "presents" as a plural noun and not a verb - I thought someone had stolen Mr. Speilberg's Hanukkah gifts or something. :goofy: *saunters off*
Iluvthe80s 12-11-02, 07:02 AM I'm starting to wish now I had recorded this series. Last night definately is building up to something good. I had to catch up last night because I missed Monday's episode, so I watched the 6:00pm and 8:00pm episodes back to back. It should be interesting to see how this ends.
By the way Sarg, from what you read of the book, is this movie staying true to the book?
Actually, I was surprised at how close the book and series have been right down to the lines spoken in the episodes, Stacy.
There are very minor differences between the two only because the book has to explain what a character is thinking. Scenes like Mary seeing the artifact that her father has for the first time, in the book, Mary hides the artifact as Chet walks into the room, while in the mini-series Eric (the father) hides it in his desk. Minor things like that are the only differences.
The novel is based on the movie rather than the other way around.
Now that I've seen tonights episode, I can honestly say that the movie is BETTER than the book which usually is not the case.
Some of the things that happened in tonights episode were much more explained in the movie where there were some shortcuts in the book.
When I saw the title of this thread, I thought I was going to read a news item on how Stephen Spielberg had his house burgled and all his family's Christmas presents stolen!
Sounds like an interesting series. I'll be watching it when it comes on TV here in New Zealand.
Iluvthe80s 12-14-02, 12:18 AM So, what did you think of the ending? I figured she would go with the aliens after watching yesterday's episode. It was a pretty good movie. I was disapointed about one thing and that was I wanted to see more aliens in alien form.
I thought it was sad that Allie had to leave her family, but she didn't have a choice and she knew it. It was nice to know that Allie could one day be back. My wife was more disapointed that Mary Crawford didn't get TAKEN away or bought a bullet. :D What a B__ch!!!
Iluvthe80s 12-15-02, 12:47 AM As far as Mary Crawford, at least this time a Crawford paid for what they had done. I saw she was in handcuffs in the very end when they drove away. She really bugged me, but her grandfather was a real d*ck!
