When I first heard Culture Club , I was about 10, Me and my mom and 2 sisters were in the car when "Karma Chameleon" came on the radio!
I was like "whoa, cool!, I like this song" . I said "mom I like this song , who's it by ?" and she said Culture Club.
And I've liked it ever since!

The first time I ever heard Culture Club was 1982 or 1983. I was watching "Friday Night Videos" and saw the video to "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" I remember trying to figure out if Boy George was a boy or a girl.

Me too Stacy!! I don't remember exactly when, but I do remember watching MTV with my sister and a Culture Club video came on. I said that girl is ugly....my sister tells me it's a guy...I didn't believe it until my mother came in and confirmed it....I didn't know what to think at that point

Wow, Friday Night Video's! I remember that show! Anyway, to the point, I first saw/heard Culture Club on FNV's and I *think* it was Karma Chameleon. It featured a steam boat in the video I think. Man, either I am getting old, or I need more caffeine to stir the gray matter with.

Oh, and for the record, I knew Boy George was a guy. I was just annoyed he could pull off that style of clothing and not only get away with it, but make money too. Yeah? And I like Prince's outfits in Purple Rain too!

Ah sorry, I just miss the days of being able to wear whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted and create your own mutant "styles" on a whim. Not like now where if I showed up for work in my "Men Without Hats" style outfit, I would be fired, committed, or ridiculed to death.

Er, no, I am not Homosexual or Bi-Sexual I just **HATE** conformity, especially rigid conformity.

As you know CCF, I've grown up on most of the music that I listen to now. It's impossible to remember.

Probably somewhere around when I was 7 years old.

I AGREE 100% Back then you could almost dress in any trend you saw on MTV or a movie and get by with it..now days everything is either, violent, too sexy, or in bad taste. And yes, Sherekan.. the "Karma" video IS the one with the steam ship..:)

Ah thanks! That was starting to eat away at my trivia file a little. I can *see* the video, but only brief images.

Oh yeah, heh, I decided to wear my skinny black leather tie to work today instead of the usual "business man" type of tie. I want to see what peoples reaction is. If it goes well then I will phase in other things slowly but surely. My ultimate goal? Visiting V.I.P.'s will be foreced to ask "Who the HELL is that guy in the network cabling dressed like one of those 80's "people!"

:) I saw them on the American Music Awards in '84. Almost everybody at school watched it. I kept wondering while watching Boy George sing was he a man or a woman. I couldn't make up my mind.

I remember quite vividly the first time I ever saw Boy George. My parents were still together and it was on a weekend. We were watching "Entertainment Tonight" and Mary Hart was talking about this new gender-bending singer and his band that were making waves over in the UK. They showed a clip of the video to "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?". No one had ever seen anything like the Boy before. It's actually rather funny, because both of my parents loved Culture Club and were big fans!

I was at home watching MTV when Do You Really Want To Hurt Me came on. Not the one where he's at the health club or country club or where ever that is. But the one where he and the band are just performing /lipsynching the song. I remember just staring wondering if he was a man or a woman. I never got into Culture Club in the 80's. I like them now, though.

For all of you who miss being able to dress 80's and all the freedom that went with it. Don't lament. Get out there and let your outside match the way you feel inside. If more of us do it, it will catch on. I'm already seeing a lot of 80's style coming back.

I watched "Do you really want to hurt me", I also to couldnt figure out if he was a boy or a girl , but I gave up guessing and just watched the video since it was a good video. I later realized it was a boy and said "Ohhh...."

We were over at friends...the girls we in the kitchen and the guys were watching tv when all of a sudden they started laughing and hollering...we went in to see the source of amusement and there was boy George...dreadlocks, all made up and in what looked like a dress. They guys were arguing back and forth about his gender. I liked the songs though, and I liked the fact that he didn't give a damn about what people thought. He was doing his thing.

I had just got done riding my bicycle to the circle K and coming back with a gazillion pieces of penny candy and some garbage pail kids, and i walked in the house and my sister was laughing at this guy who looked like a girl saying.. you coooome and goo..you come and goo.. karma karma karma ha ha... i watched the rest of the video and we both decided we liked it, so that was a hit with us for awhile, and also the talk of the school the next day =)
