You want proof that the 80s musicians are making a comeback, here's a sampling of what some of them are doing:

Steve Vai is set to release a live cd, Live- Around The World, on March 13. It was recorded during his world tour last year.

Megadeath's new album is titled The World Needs A Hero. "...this is a fan's record", says Dave Mustaine, indicating the rumored return to his roots. He says 'Risk' was a departure from what they normally do, hence the name. He is also starring in a Sci-Fi Channel movie called 'Black Scorpion' to be aired on Feb. 2.

Britny Fox will release their first ever live cd, Long Way To Live, on Feb. 6.

The long awaited Guns-N-Roses album, Chinese Democracy, will be released in June of this year. Also that month, Quiet Riot will release their first album of all original material in quite a while. They are recording it in between tour dates.

Rush is set to return to the studio in Feb. If all goes well, a new album could be out in late summer or fall.

L.A. Guns new album, Man In The Moon, will be out on April 17. Expect a tour to start even before the new album is released.

The live Halford album, Live Insurrection, will be released in May.

Kiss News: Gene Simmons will host 'The Secret History of Rock-n-Roll' on Court TV on June 11 at 10 PM. In addition to what you would expect it to be, it also focuses on the crimes of some of the biggest stars in rock history. That should prove to be interesting.

The entire Judas Priest catalog will be reissued/ remastered begining in April. We can expect a lot of bonuses. Still no news about the status of the new album, no news posted on their website since before Christmas.

New Megadeth album! WOO-HOO! I can't wait for it.. hopefully it DOES sound like the old stuff as proposed...

I am kinda excited to see Gene Simmons on Court TV http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//gene.gif although it sounds like it could be pretty strange...

Ahh, Megadeth will be fine. I'm sure they wont pull a Metallica. They can see what it's doing to them.. Like I've said before - I think Dave Mustaine would love to show up the band who kicked him out...

The best news out of all of that is that RUSH will be recording again. (although, to be picky, they're technically a 70's band!)

After all the tragedy that befell Neil Peart, I thought RUSH was done. Glad to see he's throwing himself into his work to overcome his grief. Good work, Mayhem!

As for the Priest news. There's a buzz going around about a Priest reunion with Halford in late 2001 or early 2002, to be followed by a new album and a tandem tour with Maiden. If that proves to be true, just kill me now....cause it'll get no better than that!!!

Peace,
Pagan

No kiddin, Pagan. The Maiden and Halford combo. on tour was the closest I thought we would ever get to a Priest/ Maiden tour. I have heard that rumor about a Priest reunion time and again. As much as I want it, the official word is that "Ripper" Owens is still in. They posted some pics on their website on Dec. 20 of Ripper in the studio. I don't understand what the wait is. The official word is that it takes time to put out an album the quality of a Priest album. Us longtime fans know that that has not always been true, in fact its rarely been true (at least in Priest's case). There are also those rumors about Ripper being unhappy about the direction of this new album, friction within a band would definitely delay an album.
Ahh, but we can dream about judas Priest and Iron Maiden on tour together once again (it happened in the late 70's or very early 80's). They are the masters.
Food for thought: If Halford reunites with Priest, a tour with Maiden IS possible. Bruce Dickinson did a duet with Halford on his new album called "th One I Love To Hate". They also sang together quite a few times on tour, sometimes on a Priest song, sometimes a Maiden tune, sometimes on Halford's solo material.
Now add Geoff Tate to that mix. He also performed alongside these two monster metal gods. There is a rumor that these three intend to record an album together entitled "The Three Tremors". I'm telling you, this would be HUGE (if its true, and I am begging for it to be). This would be THE must have metal album if there ever was one. Okay now I'm rambling. Anyways, I am so looking forward to the reissuing of thw Priest catalog, some of their older albums are impossible to find. Especially the first two, Priest don't even acknowledge them anymore (some type of dispute with the record company they were signed to at the time).
