View Full Version : Pat Benatar
Pat Benatar is also in the studio finishing up an album of new material since her 1997 release "Innamorata"(CMC).
I've heard one of the new songs at one of last summers tour. It was called "Please Don't Leave Me", and it sounds great!
Pat Benatar still sounds, and looks great at 48!
There is going to be another CD of older remixed material being released around April, along with a DVD of her music video's.
Pat will be taping a segment for a new show for VH-1 in late January/February, and will be featured in US Weekly sometime around the release of the new album which is targeted for April or May.

Cool! I love Pat Benatar. I saw her in concert in 1999 and she was great. She originally said the new album would be released in 2000. Wonder why it got delayed. I hope something off this album actually gets radio airplay. I think River Of Love off Innammorata should have been a huge hit.

What happened was that Pat signed on with John Kalodners label Portrait Records under Sony Entertainment. Portrait Records has 80's bands like Dokken, Cinderella, and Great White signed to it, and so far I guess the label promised more than they could deliver with those bands so Neil Giraldo (Pat's husband & guitarist and John Malta (their manager), decided to start their own label. Pat & Neil know the game, and want to play it on their own terms.
They played one different new song at each tour date last year (2000), to see how it would be received by the audiences. The audience love the new stuff from what I've heard from members of the fanclub from different cities, and from my own experience of hearing one new song during one of the two concerts I was at.

Sal Collaziano 1-18-01, 02:23 PM That's a smart way to do it. One new song at each concert. very cool. I'm glad to hear they're being liked as well. Maybe soon they'll have a concert with mostly new stuff and a few older songs...

Hi Sal, Yeah I think that will happen after the regular summer tour starts in June. I may get a taste of it during the two concerts that I'm going to on February 9 & 10, here in Florida. She's performing at the House Of Blues & the FL. State Fair.
Pat Benatar normally tries to perform at least one or two songs from each album. That's going to be hard to do since her shows go for 2+ hours now depending on what each venue allows for time.

I think that is a good idea to test out new songs in concert like that. Bruce Springsteen during his 10 shows in NYC at Madison Square Garden debuted a whole bunch of new songs, one of them being the contreversial "American Skin, 41 Shots".
I saw Pat in 99, but at that point she wasn't trying out new songs. She did pull out a whole bunch of songs that hadn't been performed in at least 15 years, like Anxiety(Get Nervous), Precious Time, and My Clone Sleeps Alone.
By the way, so far of Pat's albums I have Best Shots, Get Nervous, Innamorata, and Seven The Hard Way. What album should I get next. I know I have to get Crimes Of Passion. What do you Pat fans consider to be her best album?

Hey EBG, You've even got one CD that I can't get my hands on because it's out of print (Seven The Hard Way). Pat's first 4 albums (CD's) are pretty easy to find in stores, but anything from the late 80's is very hard to get.
For your next Pat Benatar album, I would suggest getting her 3 CD boxed set called
"Synchronistic Wanderings - Recorded Anthology 1979-1999", released in late 1999. It has a booklet that Pat & Neil give their own views of each song on the disc's. It also has some rareties, and outtakes from past albums, songs they wrote for different movies, and two versions of "Love Is A Battlefield", 53 songs total.
The boxed set costs about $30.
Now, What album Pat fans consider is her best is a tough one to answer. We all have our own favorites. I for one, don't think I will ever own "True Love", because I'm not much of a blues fan, but some people think it's one of her best albums.
Red, I think we'll be hearing more new stuff from Pat in the future since she's finished with her old contracts with Chrysalis and CMC. They can't tell her what do anymore. CMC didn't have any say in what songs were to be used in the boxed set either. The rarities were in Pat & Neil's posession. Record companies are out for themselves, and if a well established artist doesn't want to play the game, the record company just throws out one greatest hits CD after another.
If I was a new listener now, I would swear that Pat Benatar had two songs she was known for, "Hit Me With Your Best Shots", and "Love Is a Battlefield". That's all you ever hear on the radio.

Sarg, in New Jersey I have seen all of her albums in the record stores. Lots only have Best Shots and Crimes Of Passion, but a couple record stores near me have all of her albums.
I know what you mean about radio airplay. Up until maybe 5 years ago, the only songs of Pat's I honestly knew were Love Is A Battlefield and Heartbreaker. I never heard anything else on the radio or any other videos shown. I do hear Hit Me With Your Best Shot a lot now, and sometimes Shadows Of The Night and Treat Me Right.
